One Punch Man Dub Cast

  • "Viz Media announced the main English dub cast for One-Punch Man at its Anime Expo panel today." Tell me what you guys think of the cast!! I'm not familiar with these voice actors. Wouldn't it be awesome if this was ready in time for a Toonami debut?

    • Max Mittleman as Saitama (http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/Max-Mittelman/)
    • Zach Aguilar as Genos (http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/Zach-Aguilar/)
    • Robbie Daymond as Mumen Rider (http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/robbie-daymond/)
    • Erik Kimerer as Speed 'o' Sound Sonic (http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/Erik-Kimerer/)

  • Unless the dub work for the entire series is already finished, a debut on Toonami in a few weeks seems very unlikely; all four people mentioned also happen to be in the English dub for Iron-Blooded Orphans.

  • This better sound good because the cast looks TERRIBLE on paper.

  • You do realize that almost ALL of Iron-Blooded Orphans has already been recorded right? Even so if they were still recording it actors can multi-task and do other recording sessions.

  • Like I said, "unless the dub work is already finished." Most of the time when a dub cast announcement like this happens, where only the people voicing the main characters are revealed, the thought goes in my mind that either they just started dubbing or they're not very far into the work, especially in the case of broadcast dubs.

  • Yup, other than Erik, I don't think i've heard any of these people's performances. And Erik, assuming there isn't a huge difference from Haruyuki (accel world), I imagine would be terrible. That just doesn't seem right.

But since its a Viz title and their stuff ends up on Hulu I will definitely give it a go. If only because I tend to prefer a dub anyway.

  • For those who don't know the actors:

Max Mittelman played the main characters of both Aldnoah.Zero and Your Lie in April. While he is slowly gaining tons of steam, he usually plays shy teenage characters, so this is stupefying to say the least. I would have gone with Vic Mignogna as Saitama, mainly because Edward Elric proves he has the range needed for Saitama

Zach Aguilar is also upcoming, playing the bad guy of Aldnoah.Zero and a few other roles. I'm not terribly familiar with him, but from what I have heard him playing Genos may actually be the best casting of the four. I would have gone with Johnny Yong Bosch though, to add more "sexy" flair and because he and Vic would look great in a show together (besides Bleach).

Robbie Daymond has also really broken out, and plays The Doctor in SAO II and Toneri in The Last Naruto the Movie. Fun fact: he also plays the main character in Tales of Zestiria, so he may make his Funimation debut soon! I'm not really sure if he's Mumen Rider material though; I actually think Erik Scott Kimerer would be better, though I admit I didn't give him much thought.

Erik Scott Kimerer, unlike the others, has been around for a while, playing the main characters in Accel World, Toradora, and countless other shows. I've never heard him do flamboyant roles though, and I think Todd Haberkorn would be a better choice.

The lack of development for the supporting cast, meanwhile, left me virtually unable to do more predictions because they were so forgettable, and it's my biggest complaint for an otherwise unique and fantastic show. I guess I would have Michael McConnohie as Silver Fang and Michelle Ruff as Tatsumaki. Now I really want this dub to not only succeed, but do wonders, but as of now I will have to hear clips before I'm convinced it will be great.

Hey, don't jump the gun here.

EDIT: I take back that comment: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-07-01/one-punch-man-to-premiere-on-adult-swim-toonami-on-july-16/.103849

  • Here's Toonami's trailer from their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Toonami/videos/1615457392078435/

Haha yes! I had a feeling it might be the new Toonami show. That is awesome news.

  • The dub doesn't sound terribly bad actually, though it's a shame the trailer didn't show Genos. I think Max put a little too much emphasis on the deadpan, but that's only expected as Viz dubs are generally mediocre.

That's too bad, I was hoping it wouldn't be like Hunter X Hunter. I guess I'll stick with the subbed version.

  • Max Mittleman sounds smooth and cool instead of goofier than i imagine. it's a pretty good dub though. when he's monotonous in some scenes he kinda sounds like Austin Tindle .

  • Max actually does a damn solid job of nailing the image and emotions of Saitama. Of course there's gonna be scenes where he'll give more emotions but they didn't display that in the sizzle reel. He's a damn good actor, and a damn good choice. Cannot wait for the first episode in two weeks.

Yeah I agree with you. He sounds really good in the role. It'll be nice to hear the rest of the cast as well.
