Active Raid

  • I have been binge watching the first season of this anime all week in preparation for the second season premiere on July 10. Active Raid is an original anime produced by Production IMS. The first season aired last January and ran for 12 episodes. I like this show because it is about a futuristic police force going up against criminals and terrorists. It is also a mech show of sorts, although they are more like mech suits if anything. The tone of the show completely contrasts from anime like Psycho-Pass; instead of dark and bleak, this show is bright and vibrant, and gives off an energy of sorts. The action is fast paced and exciting, and the show often brings in humourous elements too. Check out season one on Crunchyroll and see for yourself if it's your kind of anime.

    Summary:
The story is set in a part of Tokyo that has descended into a quagmire, and it follows the Special Public Security Division Third Mobile Assault Eighth Unit — popularly called "The Eighth" — who don powered armor "Willware" exoskeletons to counter the rise in crime. Assistant inspector Asami Kazari is assigned to The Eighth with the task of assessing the unit's status and reporting it to her superiors. But her true goal is to rehabilitate this sloppy, haphazard, justice-less group.

Noriaki Akitaya (Bakuman., Persona 3 the Movie #1 Spring of Birth, Castle Town Dandelion) is directing the anime, and Naruhisa Arakawa (MAOYU, Spice and Wolf, Outbreak Company) is writing the scripts. Artist and manga creator Shun Saeki ( Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma) is drawing the original character designs, while Asako Nishida (Love Live!, Simoun, Vampire Knight) is designing the characters for animation. Kotaro Nakagawa (Planetes, Code Geass, Prison School) is composing the music. As heard in the video, Yuka Aisaka performs the opening theme song 'Cerulean Squash.' • Hey I'm gonna talk about things that may be spoilers

! The central conflict of the story could have been resolved (and was!) with a simple Google search. Dumb show, in my opinion

  • Yup, I agree with Riles. will likely not be watching the second season

  • This post is deleted!

  • Frankly, I had no real or major issues with this show. For me, It was lighthearted fun and relatively carefree in an enjoyable way.

Such harsh words above seem like the equivalent of getting angry or feeling disappointed when a Power Rangers TV show has Rita Repulsa lose in a silly way. It's the sort of thing you're expected to accept and relax, without trying to make a big deal out of everything.

My honest advice would to either chill out or quietly move on. Any given person is certainly free to prefer more serious stories with complex narratives and psychological depth, but my sincere opinion is that not every single series needs to be ambitious, grand or epic.

Which is why I am going to keep watching this show and appreciate it as a simple distraction without a lot of extra trouble.

Yeah, that's exactly how I feel about the show. Something like that wouldn't bother me in an anime like this. I think most of the fun of Active Raid is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. I will also be checking out season 2.

    .

what a coincidence I feel the same way. still a dumb show

  • I don't think a series has to be ambitious, grand, or epic, to know not to feature a police mech posing as a trap idol and choreographing a pop song on the fly

haha yeeah I'll admit that part was kind of weird. Over all though it is a pretty cool show,

  • I watched the entire first season as it was simulcast on CR. It wasn't a show that had me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next episode, but it wasn't bad either. I think I might watch the second season when I run out of better shows to watch…it may be a while.
