  • Well this person was only charged with this crime on July 31st. He was recast a long time ago. From what I heard, he went through a divorce and had to relocate. He must have suffered some financial problems.

I can't view the mugshot so I have no idea whether this is the same Scott Freeman. If it is, he probably went through depression. Watch what you say before claiming something extremely negative and hurtful.

  • I've already asked to have this post removed. Innocent until proven guilty.

Turns out this is true. Look what Jamie Marchi and Monica Rial have said regarding this:

  • well shit, that's not good

  • Looks like the individual was arrested/triggering of investigation occurred on 04/05/2014, so he was probably under investigation from that date until being charged. Being under investigation could explain his retirement as well, especially since employers and coworkers are often interviewed during such investigations. But just because it could explain his retirement, does not mean the voice actor and the person charged are the same Scott Freeman.

The second time I tried the link the mugshot came up. The picture could be the same person as the pics of the voice actor, but that is not proof that it is.

It is him. Look at my second post. Both Monica Rial and Jamie Marchi confirmed it on their Twitter indirectly. It is definitely him.

Passive aggressive tweets about someone's work status have never confirmed the veracity of a mugshot, but I'd love for you to explain how those two things prove one another

That said, it's probably him, given the hair on his temple. They're very oddly angled and look like racing stripes, which is the same as his MAL photo (assuming that's actually him). I doubt that many people have a hairline that looks like his and share the same name

  • Could this thread be removed please? First, Mr. Freeman has been charged with a heinous crime, not convicted. I do not believe it is appropriate to drag someone's reputation through the mud until it known for sure if he/she is guilty of said crime. If being charged with a crime was enough to show guilt then there would be no need for courts or appeals and such. Second, what is the point of this thread? What "truth" are you supposed to be exposing? That someone who did a little bit of work for Funimation turns out to likely be a complete scumbag? What is your point? Funimation seems to have cut all ties with him since the situation came to light which is the appropriate action.

  • ^Agreed, this post serves no purpose and should be locked.

Actually, Mr. Freeman was convicted on all eight counts. According to public records, he pled guilty and is now serving 3 years in a Texas state jail for his crime.

  • For all you conspiracy theorists, and those in denial…

It is him. It's as much public record (AKA no reasonable expectation of privacy) as Jared Fogel.

Innocent until proven guilty? Yes. But that doesn't translate into "don't talk about it."

And for those crying that people are talking about it? That's what people do when people are arrested for allegedly being in possession of kiddie porn. They talk about it. Why? Because it's nasty, and the thought of it fires people up.

And also... it puts a nice cap on the crying from people upset that all his roles have been recast. It's really hard to get all sad for an alleged pedo.

Not saying that being in denial about the situation is great but the reality is people don't typically like learning that an actor you like has been arrested on charges on child pornography. Shit you were around for the whole fiasco that hit this forum when Issei from DxD was simply RECAST. People don't typically like learning this about people.

My issue is not the fact that this is being shed to light, because it was gonna happen sooner or later I guess, but that the OP or whatever treats this like they're Legion/Annonymous over discovering that this anime voice actor was arrested.

People who were big fans of his roles such as those who were big on DxD or Hetalia are obviously upset or disappointed but it definitely seems to be him. Personally it's not my place to judge anymore. I would have been okay knowing he had simply retired from voice acting and left it at that but other people aren't satisfied until they get the truth which this post seems to show.

Either way, he's been charged, any and all recurring roles he previously held shall be recast, and now we know. Not saying you can't call people out on saying innocence until proven or being in denial about it not being him, but at least get that people tend to be sort of distraught when a person or actor they liked or idolized turns out to have done some pretty awful or illegal things.

good news, he has been found guilty.

  • Let me say that i have respect to the mods here for keeping their mouths shut and leaving the guy at least a little dignity for a while. I wouldve shot my mouth off the moment i heard. I have some tasteless jokes spinning around in my head at the moment. He was convicted. It came out. Like it should have. Its a shame because he was a good voice actor (he was hysterical as Issei) but he did what he did. No excuses.

As for the twitter link, that was hilarious! One guy made a reference to subway and a few clueless people starting naming off their favorite sandwiches. Monica Rial sounded like she was busting a gut over it.

I wont add anymore fuel to the fire.

  • spaceman hardy already knew about this. there's just no reason for him to comment on the matter.

by the way, anime news network wrote an article on this. This topic, my comments, and Monica/Jamie's twitter helped to get it the publicity it deserved.

  • @dabkowski:

    the publicity it deserved.

    !

  • yeah, the anime fandom needed to know the truth about Scott. Why shouldn't they???

  • @dabkowski:

the anime fandom needed to know the truth about Scott.

    I'm not sure I did. ;P
    Certainly not this way.

  • @dabkowski:

Because I don't otherwise care about the personal lives of professionals. I mean, I stopped caring about Freeman around when he stopped doing voice acting, so it doesn't really matter to me the actual reason WHY he stopped. He could've been retiring in order to start a full-time charity for orphaned puppies and it wouldn't have mattered to me
