Yaoi

  • I have become a massive fan of Yaoi. I'm a bit of a late bloomer fan but I see it as a no age sasific ganera. Dose anyone have any title sagestions?

  • So far the only "true" yaoi title that FUNimation has right now is Junjo Romantica season 3, although you might want to watch the first two seasons on YouTube first so that you can catch up on it.

Some other shows that aren't "officially" yaoi but have some serious shonen-ai elements are Free: Eternal Summer, Hetalia, Shonen Hollywood, Rainy Cocoa, and Black Butler.

  • How about non FUNimation titles? I like to watch and read it both.

  • sekkai ichi hatsukoi is pretty hot these days, I know the manga is killing it in the rankings (: You could try loveless, love stage, and gravitation if you haven't already (:

  • Check youtube, seriously. There's lots of anime/live action yaoi on there. Like others said, you can catch up on the 1st & 2nd seasons of Junjo Romanica. Junjo Pure Heart is a great live action movie. And then there's Ikoku Irokoi Romantan (it's even in dubs!). My last recommendation is Full Thai Drama, which is live action, though it's kinda sad n_n"

These are all great romance stories and you might even cry, fair warning! ^.^

  • Thank you all I found 2 free sights that stream that has many yaoi. The latest one made me cry Ai No Kusabi.

  • ^ I certainly hope those "free sites" aren't illegal streaming sites. Those cause more harm than good to the anime industry, and some even help fund criminal activity. :hmm:

  • They are legal, safe, and recommended by a fellow otaku. It is just for shows I can't get through my Netflix, hulu, or funimation. If I like a show I save up to buy later on.

  • I highly doubt these "free" sites that you found are legal. For example, if the sites you are talking about have Ai no Kusabi on them they are not legal. That anime is not licensed for distribution in the US in any form. It is a common misconception that if an anime is not licensed in the US it is not illegal to steal it. That is not true. The US and Japan have several trade agreements dating back to the end of WW2 honoring intellectual property rights, and there are several international copyright laws dealing with the distribution of foreign copyrighted titles in countries they did not originate in. Just think about it for a second: if it were legal to distribute anime titles without purchasing them, why would companies like Funimation spend millions of dollars to get licenses that they didn't need to begin with. It is not out of kindness, I can tell you that.

  • thank you for clearing that up. but funi is the main one I watch. along with Netflix and hulu

  • sensitive pornograph, papa to kiss in the dark, level C, suikisho, saint beast(well kinda), and maybe kamigami no asobi if you just want a hint of something :P Enjoy :D

  • ^Uhh, might not want to watch Sensitive Pornograph if it's plot you want. That's essentially hentai.

One I recommend actually aired on television at one point, lol. Descendants of Darkness is pretty vintage, but I liked it. The dub was ehh but it's based on a manga of the same name that I'm pretty sure counts as shounen-ai if that creepy doctor is anything to go by.
There's also Dramatical Murder, but only the source material shows it's Yaoi. The R rated OVA is the main source of gay, but I don't know if it will ever get licensed for US distribution.

Ai No Kusabi is my all-time personal favorite yaoi/shounen-ai story. I pretty much own everything AnK related at this point. I'm a major fan of it. :) I cried buckets with this one.
But that one wasn't the one that got me into yaoi. There is no such thing as testing the waters before going into the pool. I just dove right in! LOL!
One day around a few years ago, I was bored with just reading straight M/M romance and wanted to see if there was anything within the anime/manga realm I could check out. I did a google search and I discovered a plethora of stuff. On the morning we were to leave to go to DC with the rest of my family, I watched Legend of the Blue Wolves (yaoi hentai…this one was essentially rated for adults only)... this would be the very first yaoi OVA I saw without doing anything in the way of research into the genre or the film in question before hand. The ending made me cry into my blanket. :'-( I was beginning to think: "Damn, will every film or series within this genre make me cry like this? Apparently so as it would happen. I think the next one I checked out was Winter Cicada and the Ai No Kusabi right after that.

And the rest as they say is history.

Currently, I'm working on a Ai No Kusabi fan site. I have all the novels including all the ones in Japanese. Since I'm studying Japanese and have been for the last 3 years, I'm working on fan translation of the original novel picking up the translation where the earlier fan translation left off. I also found another novel that Rieko Yoshihara wrote as a prequel to the first one, Midnight Illusion, and I'm working on a translation for that. And translated also one of the extra stories that had been published as well as the CD Drama remakes that came out in 2008. So I guess that qualifies me as a nerdy fan for Ai No Kusabi. :)

The DMMD OVA got released as part of the DVD/BD set that Sentai Filmworks put out last year. I have it as well as the Japanese box set. (yeah, I'm a nerd for this one too). And this one I knew nothing about going in (sort of) I came into the anime with no expectations and really enjoyed it. I'm sure the source material was better and even though I own the game, I haven't sat down with it and played it at length (I was able to get to work on my Mac OSX but it's quirky as hell). The anime is pretty much shounen-ai and since it showed on Japanese tv I'm sure they couldn't have anything too extreme. But there's only a subtle hint of BL but for me, it hardly mattered.

Others that I remember liking but haven't gotten around to picked up yet are: My Sexual Harassment, Level C, Lesson XX (?), Kirapapa (?), Mirage of Blaze (love this one and I'm due to rewatch it soon), Vassalord (I only got to see a bit of this one on YouTube but I thought it neat and I'll have to finish watching it) …and I'm drawing a complete blank.

malkiv13: If you are looking for yaoi/shounen-ai either anime or manga (not sure what you are looking for) you should check out AarinFantasy. An account for their forum is free and I'm sure you're find something in their forums. For videos you can either stream them on their site or look for what you want in the forums. I check there myself a couple of times a month to see if there is anything I need to pick up.

    Hope that helps.
