More Lupin III English dubs?

  • I really enjoyed Funimation's dubs of the Lupin the third specials and films and was wondering if there were any more coming along the way?

The ones that haven't been dubbed into English yet are:
*Legend of the Gold of Babylon
    *Return of the Magician
    *Green vs. Red
    *Steal Napoleon's Dictionary!
    *Alcatraz Connection
    *Operation: Return the Treasure
*Stolen Lupin ~ The Copy Cat is a Midsummer's Butterfly~
*An Angel's Tactics Fragments of a Dream Are the Scent of Murder
    *Seven Days Rhapsody
    *Elusiveness of the Fog
    *Sweet Lost Night ~Magic Lamp's Nightmare Premonition~
    *The Last Job
    *Blood Seal - Eternal Mermaid
*Record of Observations of the East - Another Page
*Princess of the Breeze - Hidden City in the Sky
    *Jigen's Gravestone

There's also of course the first, second and third seasons of the TV series. The second series did have two different English dubs: one by Streamline and the second by Phuuz/Pioneer/Geneon.

Also because Funimation has the license for both Lupin the Third and Detective Conan, it would be great for them to release the recent Lupin the 3rd vs. Detective Conan TV special and film.

  • Lupin III: Daisuke Jigen's Gravestone is being dubbed by Discotek Media but thats it as far as I know ^_^

    Better than nothing though!

Discotek Media has those already, along with most of the Lupin specials you have listed. Count FUNi out.

  • So did Funimation only have permission to dub a selected few?
As someone who's not completely aware of how licensing works, is this true and if so why?

Did the Funimation Lupin dubs sell well?

  • @EternalBlue:

So did Funimation only have permission to dub a selected few?

Correct. FUNi licensed 10 specials, dubbed them and released them. First in single features, later in collections. A couple of years ago, they licensed and released the Fujiko Mine TV series as well.

Did the Funimation Lupin dubs sell well?

Not well enough, by FUNi standards.

P.S.- FUNi's done with Detective Conan, as well.

  • Speaking of Jigen's Gravestone, the new dub is already up on Hulu+ if you want to watch it.
