2015 Anime Villains Tournament Discussion Thread

  • Alright folks, sorry for the slight delay. The final day of the first round is in the books so here are our winners.

Tohru Adachi - Persona 4: The Animation
Ani Toguro - Yu Yu Hakusho
    Shogo Makishima - PsychoPass
    Judar - Magi
Ryoko Asakura - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Nui Harime - Kill la Kill
    Ali Al-Saachez
    Chouji Suitengu - Speed Grapher

Only two close matches this time out, both being tied polls that required a post count to determine the winners. So thanks to those tie-breakers Judar defeats Shou Tucker and Ali Al-Saachez defeats Homura. The final tickets are punched to the 2nd round. Matches will resume tomorrow with the start of round two. Try to stay calm until then!

  • This post is deleted!

  • Oh well. A round of applause for the Gundam villain:

    Oh Incubator…

! time for you to win this tournament.
    !

  • I'm glad Ali beat out Homura. She's a brilliantly realized character, especially in Rebellion, but she's still not who I'd call an evil character. Even if you wanted to argue that she was, she still wouldn't compare to Ali in that respect.

    Looking forward to Round 2.

    Zorin Blitz - Hellsing Ultimate

So who will make it to the next round? That's up to you good people (and the not so good ones as well). Place your votes, state your cases, and may the best villain win!

  • I'm hoping Takano, Medusa, Suigintou, and Junko make it far. Especially Junko.

    Great female villains ftw.

  • So here's what I am gonna do. I'm making a playlist of my personal contenders. These will be the guys I will see myself backing throughout the entire tournament for as long as I possibly can and will try and push them as hard as I can for as long as I can. 10 seems like a fair number but I AM SPLITTING THAT into two different groups.

MY PERSONAL FIVE will be my five personal favorites of who has passed onto Round 2. That doesn't mean that these are the only ones that I like that are left, but these are my five personal favorites that may or may not be quite as renowned in this tournament as some other candidates but I will stand by with them and try to push them and campaign for them.

MY TOP FIVE PREDICTIONS will be a group of five that I will also support that I also feel are likely contenders to win the crown in this year's tournament too. Obviously I'll push my Persona Five a little harder but I feel comfortable in this group will probably have a couple members sticking around for a few rounds, if not taking the crown.

If anyone else wants to make a playlist of competitors to get behind in the coming rounds, feel free to follow my example.

    PERSONAL FIVE:

Junko Enoshima - Danganronpa: The Animation
    Kirei Kotomine - Fate/Stay Night
    Meruem - Hunter x Hunter
Nui Harime - Kill la Kill
    Shogo Makishima - PsychoPass

    PREDICTION FIVE

Dio Brando - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
    Izaya Orihara - Durarara!!
    Johan Liebert - Monster
    Medusa Gorgon - Soul Eater
    The Major - Hellsing Ultimate

  • As day one of the second round closes out, let's see who are the first to move on to the 3rd round…

    Ladd Russo - Baccano!

    Diva - Blood+

    Asura - Soul Eater

    Harry McDowell - Gungrave

Shinobu Sensui - Yu Yu Hakusho

    Medusa Gorgon - Soul Eater

    Izaya Orihara - Durarara!!

Fuhrer King Bradley - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

What a day, we had some close matches with last year's champ Ladd Russo just barely winning by one vote, Harry McDowell winning by virtue of a tie-breaker, and Izaya Orihara squeaking by with a 2 vote victory. In a very sharp contrast to that, Diva and Medusa offered up complete and utter 10 - 0 beatdowns. Perhaps Diva is making her way to a championship bid, or maybe Medusa is on a path of destruction to make up for falling just short of the championship last year. Who knows, but this is gonna be very interesting…

As usual no matches on the weekends, so enjoy yourselves and we'll be back to the action on Monday!

  • Let's see how my teams are doing. My Prediction Five gets two victories in Izaya and Medusa, while one of my Personal Five gets offed by Bradley, a worthy adversary nonetheless. More or less bummed I had to axe Roberta, one I considered my unofficial Personal Sixth, but I had to make my support for Izaya at least.

    PERSONAL FIVE:

Junko Enoshima - Danganronpa: The Animation
    Kirei Kotomine - Fate/Stay Night
    Meruem - Hunter x Hunter
Nui Harime - Kill la Kill (-) [ROUND 2 DEFEAT]
    Shogo Makishima - PsychoPass

    PREDICTION FIVE

Dio Brando - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Izaya Orihara - Durarara!! (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
    Johan Liebert - Monster
Medusa Gorgon - Soul Eater (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
    The Major - Hellsing Ultimate

  • More match results to make your day…

    Lil' Slugger - Paranoia Agent

Miyo Takano - Higurashi: When They Cry

    The Major - Hellsing Ultimate

    Zorin Blitz - Hellsing Ultimate

    Legato Bluesummers - Trigun

Beatrice - Umineko no naku koro ni

    Chouji Suitengu - Speed Grapher

    Johan Liebert - Monster

So what did we have today? …well every match was either really close or not close at all, that's what. Lil' Slugger had the walk off home run against Misa Amane with two on the bases, Miyo Takano edged out the vampire twins by a single vote, Zorin Blitz needed a tiebreaker to take her victory dance, and finally Beatrice took the win over Asakura by two votes. As for the utter beatdowns, The Major his adversary down 8 to 1, while the human monster known as Johan Liebert pitched a 9 to 0 shutout. I wonder if either will be as dominant in the next round?

  • If this thing came down to Diva vs. Medusa in the finals that would be amazing.

Still miffed about Raoh, though. T_T

  • @SpacemanHardy:

If this thing came down to Diva vs. Medusa in the finals that would be amazing.

Would also guarantee our first female champion.

  • Updating my lists of campaigning supporters.

    PERSONAL FIVE:

Junko Enoshima - Danganronpa: The Animation
    Kirei Kotomine - Fate/Stay Night
    Meruem - Hunter x Hunter
Nui Harime - Kill la Kill (-) [ROUND 2 DEFEAT]
    Shogo Makishima - PsychoPass

    PREDICTION FIVE

Dio Brando - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Izaya Orihara - Durarara!! (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
Johan Liebert - Monster (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
Medusa Gorgon - Soul Eater (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
The Major - Hellsing Ultimate (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]

This now makes four of my prediction five that have advanced to the next round. Also for today's set of matchups you pit two of my Personal Five in a match against each other. Depending on how it goes, one will advance and another will fall. I would be personally satisfied if either Junko or Makishima ended up advancing but now all I can do is wait and see how the votes and matches themselves play out.

  • We're almost done with the 2nd round, so here's the next batch of winners headed to round three:

Junko Enoshima - Danganronpa: The Animation

    Natasha Radinov - Gunsmith Cats

    Nadeko Sengoku - Monogatari

Queen Delphine Eraclea - Last Exile

Darcia The Third - Wolf's Rain

    The Rail Tracer - Baccano!

    Griffith - Berserk

    Kyubey - Madoka Magica

Once again we had some really close matches. Junko Enoshima wins by 1 vote, Griffith won via tiebreaker, and Kyubey… well for this one not only was the poll tied, but so were things as far as posts too, so I had to go to the coin flip and that is how he gets to move on. On the other side of things we had Natasha Radinov pulling off the upset victory over Kid Buu with a 7 to 2 win. Queen Delphine Eraclea just misses out on her chance to join the shutout victory club winning her match 10 to 1.

Things are getting good folks, who knows what tomorrow's results will bring?

  • Okay first things first…wow.

Not only am I surprised that Griffith managed to turn the tide of battle in the last hour...but that Kyubey and Akio Ohtori were BOTH TIED AND THAT HAD TO BE DECIDED VIA COINFLIP...that's even more impressing, especially considering last I checked Akio had a lead of one vote.

    Anyways, on to my updates.

    PERSONAL FIVE:

Junko Enoshima - Danganronpa: The Animation (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
    Kirei Kotomine - Fate/Stay Night
    Meruem - Hunter x Hunter
Nui Harime - Kill la Kill (-) [ROUND 2 DEFEAT]
Shogo Makishima - PsychoPass (-) [ROUND 2 DEFEAT]

    PREDICTION FIVE

Dio Brando - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Izaya Orihara - Durarara!! (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
Johan Liebert - Monster (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
Medusa Gorgon - Soul Eater (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
The Major - Hellsing Ultimate (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]

Even when I was forced to choose between Junko and Shogo, Junko ends up taking the victory anyways. Still pretty happy about this, and now it just gives me all the more resolve to push for Junko but still, that was one damn good match up. Now it's time to push both King Meruem and Kirei Kotomine, alongside LORD DIO.

  • Uh OK, I did not expect Junko to end up beating Makishima at all.

Maybe Danganronpa isn't as much of a niche series as I thought?

Either way, glad to see we have some great female villains other than Medusa getting up there. Personally rooting for Takano, Junko, Beato, and to a lesser extent Nadeko and Delphine.

  • I think it might have to do more with Makashima being an eye-rolling villain who feels it necessary to explain all his metaphors while holding books that are such examples of his metaphors

Additionally, Junko's crazy, and people like crazy

  • The final matches of round 2 are in the books so here are your winners.

    Lady Une - Gundam Wing

    Meruem - Hunter x Hunter

    Nakago - Fushigi Yuugi

    Crocodile - One Piece

Dio Brando - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

    Makoto Shishio - Rurouni Kenshin

    Vicious - Cowboy Bebop

Tohru Adachi - Persona 4: The Animation

Well I gotta say that I am slightly shocked, in all my years of doing this tournament I don't think I've ever seen this many matches be so close in a single day of action. With the exception of Dio Brando, every other match was decided by 2 votes or less. In Meruem's case, he needed a tiebreaker, but that was close too! Truly some hard fought battles and to the victors go the spoils. In this case that's the next round.

Anyhow, no matches today so I can get things ready for round 3. Try not to get too impatient until then…

  • Junko Enoshima - Danganronpa: The Animation (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
    Kirei Kotomine - Fate/Stay Night (-) [ROUND 2 DEFEAT]
    Meruem - Hunter x Hunter (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
Nui Harime - Kill la Kill (-) [ROUND 2 DEFEAT]
Shogo Makishima - PsychoPass (-) [ROUND 2 DEFEAT]

    PREDICTION FIVE

Dio Brando - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
Izaya Orihara - Durarara!! (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
Johan Liebert - Monster (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
Medusa Gorgon - Soul Eater (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]
The Major - Hellsing Ultimate (+) [ROUND 3 ADVANCE]

All of the Prediction Five made it to the next round as I, well, predicted, but I was surprised at the two that made it from my Personal group: Meruem and Junko Enoshima. I honestly thought these two weren't going to make it after the 1st Round and lo and behold they're the ones that made it through to the Top 32. I am shocked and happy, because I love both of these villains that deserve to have gotten this far. I'll definitely see if I can support Meruem and Junko for another round and see how far they can get if it's possible for them to get farther but regardless….

CONGRATS TO THE BOTH OF THEM.

Also...I don't know whether I am gonna decide from the Top 32 or the Top 16 contenders...but I think I am gonna make it a goal to watch the shows from the contestants who made it this far that I haven't seen yet. I'll chart down which ones later once I've stuck with it for real.

  • The third round begins soon, so let's have a look at who's still standing?

    Asura - Soul Eater
Beatrice - Umineko no naku koro ni
    Chouji Suitengu - Speed Grapher
    Crocodile - One Piece
Darcia The Third - Wolf's Rain
Dio Brando - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
    Diva - Blood+
Fuhrer King Bradley - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
    Griffith - Berserk
    Harry McDowell - Gungrave
    Izaya Orihara - Durarara!!
    Johan Liebert - Monster
Junko Enoshima - Danganronpa: The Animation
    Kyubey - Madoka Magica
Ladd Russo - Baccano! *2014 Champion
    Lady Une - Gundam Wing
    Legato Bluesummers - Trigun
    Lil' Slugger - Paranoia Agent
    Makoto Shishio - Rurouni Kenshin
    Medusa Gorgon - Soul Eater *2014 Runner-Up
    Meruem - Hunter x Hunter
Miyo Takano - Higurashi: When They Cry
    Nadeko Sengoku - Monogatari
    Nakago - Fushigi Yuugi
    Natasha Radinov - Gunsmith Cats
Queen Delphine Eraclea - Last Exile
Shinobu Sensui - Yu Yu Hakusho
    The Major - Hellsing Ultimate
    The Rail Tracer - Baccano!
Tohru Adachi - Persona 4: The Animation
    Vicious - Cowboy Bebop
    Zorin Blitz - Hellsing Ultimate

Quite the group of villains here, some familiar faces, some new and surprising faces including some first timers to the tournament. So I wonder, when its all said and done who will be left to make it into the _Sinister Sixteen_â„¢?
