Who are your favorite voice actors in anime?
Just out of curiosity, who are your favorite voice actors? What are your favorite roles that they've played? If you want, you can make lists of Funimation, non-Funimation, dub actors, Japanese actors, etc. Whatever criteria you can think of.
My current favorites:
J. Michael Tatum
I will probably edit to add more as I think of them, and it seems that I prefer male voices to female ones. I may have misspelled some names.
I've always been more fond of the voice actors from the LA area myself. FUNi has great people and all, but I still think most of the folks that work over in Cali are better. I don't think I have any true favorites, but I suppose I'll name a few…
Wendee Lee, Michelle Ruff, Stephanie Sheh, Bridget Hoffman, Kari Wahlgren, Johnny Yong Bosch, Crispin Freeman, um... wow, I pretty much named off major players from the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise (as well as Lucky Star). But I'm not wrong, that was basically an all-star team of voice acting from LA.
Oh! I forgot to add Johnny Yong Bosch to my list.
I tend to watch subs more nowadays, so off the top of my head a few of my favorite seiyuu are Hiroshi Kamiya, Mamoru Miyano, Ayako Kawasumi, Chiwa Saito, and Romi Park.
Tatum is one of my English favorites, along with Laura Bailey.
I have lots, but I'll just post my 10 favorites from both sides:
English Female (Texas): Jamie Marchi
English Male (Texas): David Wald
English Female (California): Megan Hollingshead
English Male (California): Jamieson Price
JPN Female: Kikuko Inoue
JPN Male: Akio Otsuka
Jonathan Love - Jackknife Dragon
Lucas Gilbertson - Asmodai
Keiji Fujiwara - FFXV's red hair and other red-haired antagonists + Sven Volfied
J. Michael Tatum
I prefer male VAs overall. I have a harder time distinguishing many female VAs from each other, except for those listed above; I don't mean that in a negetive way, just a factual way. :-/
Johnny Yong Bosch
I prefer the Japanese voice actors when in the context of anime. English voice actors aren't very motivated for dub work. I only keep track of a handful whose roles impressed me:
Fukuyama Jun for his portrayal of "Lelouch Lamperouge" in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion as well as "Watanuki Kimihiro" in xxxHolic.
Miki Shin-ichiro for his portrayal of "Urahara Kisuke" in Bleach.
Sawashiro Miyuki for her portrayal of "Shinku" in the Rozen Maiden series.
Asumi Kana for her portrayal of "Nyarlathotep" ("Nyarko") in Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos.
I would love to see an animated production of Goethe's Faust with Fukuyama Jun starring as "Faust" and Miki Shin-Ichiro playing "Mephistopheles".
^ duly noted.
But y'know you don't always have that pleasure, like when games launch and you get one audio option. With the likes of…
- The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
- The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC
- The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel etc...
For me my Favorites:
Kikikuo Inoue (Belldandy, Ah! Megami-sama. Starsha Iscandar, Yamato: 2199)
Ai Kayano (Meiko (Menma) Honma, Anohana. Darzana Magbaredge, Aldnoah.Zero)
Ami Koshimizu (Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Moon Crystal. The Demon Queen, Mayou)
Kana Hanazawa (Rana Linchen, Freezing. Galsedara, Gathchaman Crowds: Insight)
Maya Uchida (Liliruca, Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?. Twoearle, Gonna Be the Twin-TaIL!)
Ayako Kawasumi (Saber, Fate / Stay Night. Moffle, Amagi Brilliant Park)
Yumi Touma (Urd, Ah! Megamisama. Deedlit, Record of Lodoss War OVA)
Aya Hisakawa (Skuld, Ah! My Goddess. Kaoru Nimi, Yamato: 2199)
Sora Hayami: (Shirayuki, Snow White with the Red Hair. Ryu Lion, Is it Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon)
Right now, I'd have to go with:
Monica Rial (honestly, I never get tired of her voice)
Morgan Berry (up-and-comer, played Linda in Neptunia)
Jessica Calvello (episodes 14-26 of Excel Saga are some of the most depressing things I've ever watched without her)
Colleen Clinkenbeard, Brina Palancia, Crispin Freeman, and so many others…
Alexis Tipton is definitely my top favorite voice actress.
Brina Palencia, Colleen Clinkenbeard, Jamie Marchi, Monica Rial, Tia Ballard, Felecia Angelle, and Leah Clark are amazing as well.
Aaron Dismuke would be my favorite male voice actor.
Josh Grelle, Christopher Sabat, Justin Cook (I wish he would voice more stuff), and Todd Haberkorn.
