How can I make my anime artwork look more professional
You see how in this image the character seems to just fit right into the background,
Well that doesn't happen with my work. My characters seem to be popping out.
Here are some examples
Now I use inkscape and GIMP to edit my artwork, is it because I am using two different programs?
Or do I need a more professional program like photoshop?
If not is there a way you can help me? :)
I am just an amateur artist but I always strive to do better.
Thank you so much for reading.
I'm no artist, but I think the bench is the issue.
I may be late to the game but I'm hoping your still at it. I'm not familiar with the software you are using but it looks like you have a blur on your background and none on your subject. When you use a blur try to think of it as replicating the same effect you get from the focal length of a lens like a photograph. Everything at one distance will be in focus while everything else will get more blurry as you move away from it. I'm going to use your second piece for an example. The bench looks like it has the most blur applied when his chest and right arm are at the same distance with no blur. To make it more natural looking let's pick the subjects face/torso to be in focus. The bench is so near to that plane it should just have a touch of blur applied if any. His left arm and the milk should have a little more because it's closer to the "camera." The lines in the background should have the most because they are the furthest away. Also consider the light source. The shadows are consistent in the figure but he's not casting any shadows on his environment. Since he's so close to the bench and table our brains expect there to be a shadow there that is consistent with what is in the figure. I hope this helps.
