Downloading music from Funimation's anime

  • I was wondering, since you guys have to license the music of anime in order to get them to the US, is it an issue if we listen to streams of songs or download if the song is not on US iTunes?

  • @MetalOverlord:

is it an issue if we listen to streams of songs or download if the song is not on US iTunes?

    Yes.
Everything's copyrighted. It may not affect FUNi directly, but it does affect the companies FUNi licenses from.

TL;DR: FUNi cannot approve of your actions.

  • Got it, thanks for the heads-up.

  • FUNimation will almost certainly only have music rights in regards to the anime itself, not independent of it. For examples you only need to see the old Geneon USA Music catalogue which includes soundtracks for shows distributed by other US companies and, more recently, Anime Limited publishing the soundtrack for Attack on Titan on iTunes in the UK, while the show itself is licensed by Manga.
You will find music for FUNimation shows on iTunes (e.g. the OSTs for both Last Exile series), but published by the Japanese licensor , not FUNimation themselves.

I have a list of all the anime music I have found on iTunes here:

(the US list is rather out of date, but most tracks on the UK list will also be available on the US store)
