Giant Robo

  • I was actually lukewarm on the series after the first two episodes (with episode one having a boring middle but was impressed by the train scene in the beginning and episode two beginning with what seem like 15+ minutes of recap) but when I finally finished the rest, I came to love it.

It's difficult to describe this show. In a way, it's very much structured like an opera--not only does it have great orchestral music specifically composed for this show, it also deals with BIG melodramatic themes in BIG tragic fashion. And the thing is, even though it does deliver some really nice GIANT ROBO action, it's really actually a superhero show like JL/JLU.

The operatic direction is the most appealing part to me.
    Besides the beautiful hand-drawn animation.

  • @jlaking Is It Available On DVD? Streaming?

Media Blasters has put out a couple sets that you still might be able to find, but the prices are not the best. Unfortunately, it isn't streaming anywhere.

One of my favorite parts is how the backstory slowly unfolds, and the direction during the sequence when we learn the full story is amazing.
