In either case, sports anime are sports animes; people who like the sport will like it regardless of demographic. Yes, sports are historically men orientated in the execution thereof, but women can enjoy just as much. Case in point, Rome/Colosseum. IDK, perhaps women like to watch "sexy men fight", whether actually or in sport.
No, just a human thing, BTW. Anyways, trying to micro-analyze such requires too much brain power, I believe. Are E-Sports, "real sports"? Such eternal questions...
I have noticed the difference in the inflection of the voices between the SUB and DUB VAs. It creates a different feel for each character, which affects the show overall. In the SUB, Aki Adagaki, would often change from stern to soft, angry while being vulnerable, a narcissist with a hint of caring, but it's not as noticeable in the SimulDub, she seems mean all the time. That definitely changes the essence of the show.
I'm not going to touch on the differences scripts.
I don't believe your being oversensitive, I think its just a matter of preference. What you hear doesn't mesh for you. Understandable. using your reference to Dagashi Kashi, you thought the dub was great, I thought it was just ok.
