Well that's rather a shame. The existing US Blu-Ray release is kinda not especially good. Only stereo sound (in spite of the DVD having 5.1), no special features (in spite of the DVD having plenty)… The video transfer itself is decent, but that's all. If Funimation were to do it, I'm certain they would do a better job.
Yea it sucks, but the blu-ray is still the best to watch just the movie even if its not 5.1. Visually better than the DVD and everything else.
I heard the word "shit." That was replaced with "damn" on Adult Swim? Are you talking about how in the first episode the old men say "son of a bitch" instead of "goddamn son of a bitch" and "criminy's sake" instead of "Christ's sake?" Later in the episode they use the profanity. This is uncut.
You have to ask yourself: What's more important to you? Something that looks nice on your shelf, or something that offers you a deeper experience?
If you're all about aesthetics, then get the FUNimation set and show it off to your friends.
If you're more into concept art and production notes to help you understand the mythos behind the show better, get the Amazon set.
Also, look at how much money you're willing to spend. If you only have so much, the FUNi set is a tad cheaper. If you've got a LOT of extra cash to spend, you could always get both.
Or you could always just get the cheap standard bluray set on RightStuf for about $35 bucks. It has all the same on-disc special features as the two deluxe editions anyways.
Whatever you decide, it's all on you.
EDIT: In case you're wondering which version I'm getting, I decided to go for the Amazon edition. It's just gonna sit on my shelf anyway, so I'd much rather have the extra production material to look through. The vinyl record cover does look neat, but stuff like concept art and production notes hold more value to my eyes. But that's just me.
Plus postcards. SCREW postcards. Like, for real. >.<
I pretty sure that the OP's initial question has been answered. And at this point, all I'm seeing is the thread degrade into an off-topic "X" dubs are bad because I don't like them; and you should feel bad for liking them. So…
