The world is getting more stressful for multiple reasons- maybe work is piling on more work or exams are coming- but we’re here to help deal with that. With the release of Omamori Himari (on November 8th on DVD), we got the great idea to bring you some of the cutest catgirls that we could find! Internet cats and cute anime girls are scientifically proven to relieve stress (we’re pretty sure), so why not put them together? See some of our favorites below:
Fatherhood is hard. It’s especially hard when your children may grow up with powers or in a world full of danger! It’s no secret that anime dads typically aren’t the paragons of parenting, but we still want to highlight the men that were there for their kids. This list isn’t in any particular order and it also includes non-biological fathers.
All MightMy Hero Academia
Although All Might isn’t a literal father to anyone, he is seen as a father figure through the land and the school where he teaches. Known as the strongest of heroes, all people, especially the youth he mentors, look up to him and his example of strength and devotion. Although he can let his emotions get the better of him at times and sometimes he overextends his efforts, he gets the job done in teaching the future generation what it means to be a true hero and he manages to protect everyone.
Joseph JoestarJojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders
The whole 3rd season of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure centers around the lengths that Joseph will go to save his daughter who has been afflicted with a mysterious curse. Without getting too deep into the story, he and his grandson, Jotaro, travel the world amidst assassins who aim to stop them in finding the cure. Although he can be brash and at times too much of a jokester, he keeps his sole focus on finding the cure for his ailing daughter.
Lord Death and Spirit AlbarnSoul Eater
Both of these entities are some of the strongest guardians in the land, but they maintain goofy exteriors to not seem threatening to their own people and the kids they watch out for. They are always on the lookout for the good of their own kids and the people they protect. Although they can seem flippant at times, they maintain their roles as teachers, protectors, and fathers.
Here we have another serious-when-he-needs-to-be dad that is often goofy and outrageous, but just the guy who is whatever his family needs him to be. He is very protective of his only daughter who can be very ditzy and unfortunately sickly, but when the family grows, he spreads his protective wings in his own signature fashion.
KumatetsuThe Boy and The Beast
In a very unlikely pairing, Kumatetsu, the beast, becomes an unwilling and nearly unfit for the grieving young human boy he dubs “Kyuta”. However through time, the two become a strong family unit that trains together, protects each other, and looks out for each other. Although Kumatetsu can be very hardheaded, stubborn, and very emotional, he looks out for Kyuta and builds him to be a very strong fighter.
Kawachi DakichiUsagi Drop
This man gets props as he went very quickly from a nonchalant bachelor to a caring and loving caretaker of a 6-year old girl. Through a series of interesting events, this man with no responsibilities or immediate family to take care of steps up and takes in an illegitimate and hidden child after the death of the family patriarch. He transforms his life very quickly in order to give this girl a normal life.
Maes HughesFullmetal Alchemist
It’d be pretty criminal not to put one of the most zealous and caring of anime fathers on our list! If you interact with this family man, you’ll be getting an earful about his wife (and more about his precious daughter) whether you wanted to or not. He’s equipped with pictures of his family on every occasion.
PiccoloDragon Ball Z
We could highlight the well-known fathers of the series like Goku, Vegeta, Krillin, and even Mr. Satan, but we want to show off a lesser thought of father. Piccolo has never fathered any kids himself, but he has always (well… for the most part) looked out for the kids of the series. He began or furthered the kids’ training in defending themselves, protected and has sacrificed his well-being for the kids, and he’s willing to show a more “gentle” side to the kids.
Who are your favorite anime dads? Let us know in the comments!
What a purrfect day it is for cat fanciers everywhere as it’s time to celebrate the annual National Cat Day! We wanted to share a few of our favorite feline friends from the FUNimation family, but that doesn’t mean we covered every cute kitty out there. Let us know what your favorite anime cat is below in the comments or share your personal picks with us on Twitter or Facebook!
Series: Soul Eater
The magical feline from Soul Eater is known to have a trick or two up her sleeve, weaving her spells to help Maka and Soul wherever she can. But Blair has a fun side, too, and isn’t afraid to show off a little fur every now and then. Usually cats despise the notion of taking a bath, but this feisty kitty loves to splash around in the tub while in her human form from time to time. A little fan service never hurt, right?
Not all cats hail from Earth, you know. Eris initially needs time to convince Kio and his friends that she hails from a distant world called Catia (obviously), but her use of advanced technology clearly put such doubts to rest. Much like any cat and their owner, Eris develops a strong emotional bond with Kio, whom she eventually selects to be her mate. Things get a little out of hand after she entered her first heat, but Eris’ passion eventually subsides, allowing her to resume her normal duties as the playful ambassador of Catia.
Series: Fairy Tail
The loyal feline companion of the guild, Happy constantly showcases his resolve despite his relatively small stature. True to the stereotype, Happy isn’t a fan of dogs and absolutely can’t refuse fish for a meal. While he usually displays an upbeat demeanor, Happy is known to show off a darker side every now and then, especially when it comes to the use of the magical arts. Though it’s not all toil and trouble — when Happy conjures up a bit of magic we get to see those adorable wings of his in action!
Series: Dragon Ball Z
First introduced to us in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Beerus serves as the destroyer within the seventh universe and seeks out a confrontation with Goku. Despite being able to obliterate planets with ease, Beerus does live up to the expectations of a cat — he enjoys sleeping for long periods of time, grooming himself, and feasting on gourmet fish. Beerus can also get upset very easily at the most mundane offenses, yet at other times he exhibits well-mannered nature that makes you wonder if he’s really a villain at all. He’s just your ordinary, every day feline deity who might just blow up Earth if the sushi isn’t to his liking. Talk about a picky eater.
Series: Fruits Basket
Fiercely competitive and territorial, Kyo Sohma is your average, ordinary, everyday human cursed by the spirit of the cat of the zodiac. The orange haired boy seems normal enough, but when hugged by anyone of the opposite gender, including his first encounter with Tohru, Kyo immediately transforms into a cute an adorable little cat. And it’s not just a physical likeness, either — even when in human form, Kyo dislikes water, gets lazy when it’s raining, drinks a lot of milk, and becomes easily frightened by sudden, loud noises. He also shares an intense rivalry with Yuki, who represents the rat from the Chinese Zodiac, who according to legends tricked the cat out of its spot on the zodiac.
At the Death Weapon Meister Academy, weapons and Meisters must work together to defeat the forces of evil. But when it comes choosing which role is the coolest, only the fans can pick a winner. One randomly-chosen voter will win a prize pack including the Soul Eater Not! Limited Edition, plus some Soul Eater swag. Two additional randomly-chosen voters will also win a copy of Soul Eater Not!

In 2010, we began releasing Soul Eater. It turns out that more than a few of you enjoyed the Cool-with-a-capital-C class of the Death Weapon Meister Academy.
Recently, our team realized that in spite of how popular Soul Eater is and has always been, the show has never received any kind of specialty packaging. As you are probably guessing at this very moment…we’ve decided to change that.

Our friends over at The Sword and the Stone just launched another episode of Man at Arms on their AWE me YouTube channel. The Burbank-based blacksmith shop famous for weapons featured in movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, and Blade created Edward Elric’s dragon spear in a previous episode. This time they’ve delved into the world of Soul Eater by making Tsubaki! Sorry guys, they couldn’t make her human form without breaking some cloning laws so you’ll have to settle with her chain scythe form. You can catch the full episode on their channel, but, thanks to Assistant Blacksmith Bryan Forrest, we got some exclusive behind-the-scenes footage just for our FUNimation viewers. 😉
Be sure to watch until the end for an epic battle cry from Master Blacksmith Tony Swatton.
