Step up onto the starting blocks, because it’s time to dive into the latest trailer for Free! -the Final Stroke-, courtesy of Kyoto Animation’s official YouTube channel!

Setting the tone for the franchise’s two-part theatrical finale, the trailer confirms the first film’s September 17 release date in Japan, with the second film scheduled to premiere on April 22, 2022.

A new visual was also released, giving us another taste of just how intense this finale will be:

OLDCODEX will be returning to perform a “Free” version of their opening theme for Season 3 of the TV anime, “Heading to Over,” as the film’s main theme.

Eisaku Kawanami (Free! Season 3) is in charge of directing and scriptwriting for both films at Kyoto Animation.

It’s been a long journey for the seminal swimming franchise, starting out in 2013 with a 12-episode original anime series, followed by two more seasons, numerous films and specials, and even a prequel featuring the cast in their middle school years.
