If you’ve been playing games for a while now, you probably remember the exciting moment when you first jumped into Ratchet & Clank on the PlayStation 2, all the way back in 2002.

The sci-fi adventure game starred a Lombax mechanic Ratchet and the adorable mechanical mistake, Clank, as they hop from planet to planet and take on the Blarg.

They also hopped through numerous PlayStation consoles and even a feature film, and have now arrived at the release of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the latest entry in the franchise, exclusive to the PlayStation 5. With Doctor Nefarious again up to no good, it’s up to our titular duo to travel through realities, make some allies and take him down once again.

So whether you’re preparing to play the game or have just finished another game in the series, we wanted to recommend some anime for you. These shows will transport you to different worlds with adorable, yet tough creatures, some sci-fi action and, of course, some comedy.

Dragon Goes House-Hunting

Dragon Goes House-Hunting

Leave all skepticism at the door. Dragon Goes House-Hunting is a funny and adorable anime that all ages can enjoy. The story follows Letty, a talking dragon who just wants to find a home where he can be safe and happy.

So, he calls upon elf demon lord, Dearia, who also happens to be an architect and real estate agent. Together with an adorable chick and a runaway princess, they travel the land looking for prime real estate.

Dragon Goes House-Hunting has the same fun spirit that Ratchet & Clank does. And just like the game series is easy to get into, so is this anime. You’ll be surprised how committed you will be to finding Letty a home, too.

Combatants Will Be Dispatched!

Combatants Will Be Dispatched New Character Info Header

Just as you’ll find in the Ratchet & Clank series, this anime is about an evil villain trying to take over planets across the universe (multiverse?). And so, the evil Kisaragi Corporation sends Agent Six and combatant android Alice to a fantasy world to infiltrate and conquer it.

That proves to be a bit tough, though, as Six and Alice are drafted into the world’s military as they try and take down the Demon Lord, and maybe just protecting the world they were sent to destroy.

What ensues is pure comedy as the two face dilemma after dilemma. In Ratchet & Clank, you don’t root for the bad guy, but the titular duo often face many difficulties that lead to hilarious consequences.

Combatants Will Be Dispatched! offers the same sci-fi action laughs as the game from an unlikely pair of heroes…villains…veroes?

Sands of Destruction

Based on a JRPG of the same name, Sands of Destruction takes place in a fictional world where anthropomorphic “Beasts” rule humanity. These Beasts also have robots to help with other tasks.

The story follows protagonists Kyrie and Morte, who both want to take down the Beasts and free the humans. Sounds simple…right? Well, Kyrie also has the ability to destroy the world, and he doesn’t know why.

This series is at home on this list because on the surface, it looks cute, but the story shows that its dangers are serious. Ratchet & Clank may look cute, but they mean business, and they often have to take on saving the world or time itself.

Sands of Destruction is filled with great action scenes, an interesting story, sprinkles of comedy and some adorable characters. Hey! Just like the Ratchet & Clank games.

Space Dandy

When you think of unlikely heroes, the crew from Shinichiro Watanabe’s Space Dandy might come to mind. Dandy is, well, a dandy guy in space and an alien bounty hunter. Oh, and he’s got a robot assistant named QT. QT like a cutie, get it?

Dandy also works with an anthropomorphic cat named Meow, and the crew of his ship, the Aloha Oe, travels through space hunting down rare aliens…most of the time. When he’s not working, Dandy frequents his favorite restaurant, BooBies, with hopes of owning his own franchise one day.

But having a unique space crew or not-so-subtle innuendos aren’t the only things this series has in common with Ratchet & Clank. It also features alternate realities with some truly trippy visuals. So why not get ready for Rift Apart with some Space Dandy?

Sgt. Frog

Meet Keroro a.k.a. Sergeant Frog, who is sent to Earth with his warrior platoon in an effort to conquer the planet. Luckily for our planet, Keroro isn’t the best at his job, and he and his four warriors end up stranded on Earth.

Keroro spends most of his time watching television, building Gunpla and trying to make money. Also known as what I did during quarantine. And the other four try to figure out a way to complete their mission, whip Keroro into shape and get back home.

Did I mention this all happens while Keroro is living with a human family, the Hinatas? Naturally, hijinks ensue as neither the alien frogs or Hinatas can get anything done with a shred of peace.

Sgt. Frog is adorable and tons of fun, just like Ratchet & Clank!

And that completes my recommendations for anime to watch if you love Ratchet & Clank! There’s plenty more where that came from, right here on Funimation.

And don’t forget! Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart officially releases on June 11 for PlayStation 5. Have a favorite you’re watching in preparation? Share this post and let us know!
