It’s time to add another record to the long list of achievements Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train has accumulated. The record-smashing movie has officially crossed $40 million at the North American box office!
With an exact total of $40,004,952 as of Tuesday night, the film sits neatly as the third-highest grossing anime film of all-time in the United States, behind only the first two Pokémon films.
And this is just the latest record the film has broken! In its first weekend out in North America, it had the highest grossing opening for a foreign language film. Prior to that, Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train set plenty of records internationally.
After opening in Japan on October 16, 2020, it’s become the highest grossing anime and Japanese film of all-time worldwide (animated or live-action). It achieved over $100 million at the Japanese box office in just 10 days—the fastest to ever do so.
The film is also the highest grossing film of all-time in Japan, surpassing the likes of Studio Ghibli‘s Spirited Away. And now, the high-octane, action-packed film is taking the world by storm, claiming even the #1 spot during its opening in Australia and New Zealand!
