Komi Can’t Communicate Anime Adaptation Officially Announced

2021 is the year that just keeps on giving—beloved rom-com manga Komi Can’t Communicate from Tomohito Oda is finally getting an anime this October!

And you don’t have to wait for the finer details, since the series’ official Twitter account revealed a teaser visual and trailer as well as the main cast and staff.

Aoi Koga (Kaguya-sama: Love is War) will voice the titular Shoko Komi, joined by Gakuto Kajiwara (Fire Force) as Hitohito Tadano and Rie Murakawa (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-) as Najimi Osana.

Ayumu Watanabe (After the Rain) will serve as chief director alongside Kazuki Kawagoe (Bungo and Alchemist -Gears of Judgement- episode director) as director at studio OLM, with Deko Akao (After the Rain, Arakawa Under the Bridge) on series composition and Atsuko Nakajima (Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto, Ranma 1/2) on character design.

Tomohito Oda’s Komi Can’t Communicate manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in May 2016 and currently spans 20+ volumes.


VIZ Media, who publishes the series’ English version, describes the series as:

Socially anxious high school student Shoko Komi’s greatest dream is to make some friends, but everyone at school mistakes her crippling social anxiety for cool reserve. With the whole student body keeping its distance and Komi unable to utter a single word, friendship might be forever beyond her reach.
