If you’ve got Google Stadia, get ready to sink a few hundred hours into some seriously great JRPGs! Google announced today that two beloved, long-running series will be releasing on the Stadia platform.
Starting April 1, Stadia owners can purchase The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III and Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. And if that’s not enough, the sequels for both titles are also coming to the platform.
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is coming to Stadia sometime this summer, with The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV making its way to the platform a few days after its prequel on April 9. The latter is launching on Stadia the same day it arrives on consoles.
Both series are developed by Nihon Falcom. The two Trails of Cold Steel games will feature summaries of the previous games, which tend to have rich, complex plots that feature many characters.
The news of these games, while great for JRPG fans, comes weeks after Google announced it would be shuttering its internal game development studios, which had been working on original IPs since Stadia launched. However, Google has promised to keep the platform alive in the near future by bringing in more games from third-party developers.
In a Google blog written by Phil Harrison, Vice President and GM of Google Stadia, “We’re committed to the future of cloud gaming, and will continue to do our part to drive this industry forward.”
While both JRPG series are available on multiple platforms, their availability on Stadia makes them more accessible to just about anyone with an internet connection and a Stadia controller.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III and Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana go on sale April 1 on Stadia. Funimation recently announced it would be co-producing an anime project based on The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel franchise.
