Release Date for Cowboy Bebop

August 9, 2014 by Funimation

cowboy bebopOne of the most asked questions at our booth all year now has an answer. Cowboy Bebop will be releasing on home video in December!

Fans will have four options for purchase:

o   DVD standard edition
o   Blu-ray standard edition
o   Amazon Exclusive BD/DVD Premium Edition
o   FUNimation.com Exclusive BD/DVD Premium Edition

The two Premium Editions will each feature different packaging and premium items, but their precise details will be announced later.

synopsis:
Explore the far reaches of the galaxy in this undeniably hip series that inspired a generation – and redefined anime as an indisputable art form.

The Bebop crew is just trying to make a buck. This motely lot of intergalactic loners teams up to track down fugitives and turn them in for cold hard cash. Spike is a hero whose cool façade hides a dark and deadly past. The pilot Jet is a bruiser of a brute who can’t wait to collect the next bounty. Faye Valentine is a femme fatale prone to breaking hearts and separating fools from their money. Along for the ride are the brilliant, but weird, hacker Ed and a super-genius Welsh Corgi named Ein. On their own, any one of them is likely to get lost in the sprawl of space, but together, they’re they most entertaining gang of bounty hunters in the year 2071.

I hope this will also be available for streaming too.

I think having two premium sets at store exclusives is a jerk move. It really puts out huge fans of the show. Further, going with Amazon is a further slap in the face of the anime industry. Why not do this with RTSI and support a small business that has been so supportive of the industry? Ridiculous. I’m disappointed in Funimation. Given the quality control issues in the last year and moves like this, the company is just losing ground with me.

Thank you so much Funimation for doing this!!

I’m getting the funimation premium edition. 😀 Did the same for Attack on Titan, so might as well.

Great, now get to localizing Evangelion 3.33 already. Stop trying to milk more box office numbers out of it.

Really? Two different premium editions? Funimation, please stop trying to milk every dollar out of your customers by trying to get them to double-dip. Also why the hell is it not with a small business like RightStuf? I thought you weren’t like Aniplex and actually cared about your customers. I mean at least PsychoPass had the entire series at a price almost just like getting both half series sets, but even that’s useless now with the re-edit coming out. Please stop this.

Please don’t make comments like this unless you actually know what it’s like to run a business. Getting a premium edition with Amazon is a huge jump for the anime industry. Would it have been cool if it went to rightstuf? Sure, but Funimation can reach even more individuals through a site like Amazon.

I hope they included Session XX (Recap Ep) as an extra & fixed some audio issues.

I doubt they’ll include it seeing as it was never released on DVD or Blu-Ray in Japan

I will probably just get the standard Blu-ray release just because I don’t really care about having all that exclusive stuff.

Nice for the USA fans :). I just got my cowboy bebop copy by a EU release.

Honestly more interested in what you announced at the same time as this: Code Geass. Already have both on DVD so waiting for more info about the Blu-Rays.

Also disappointed that Funimation excluded TRSI from the special editions. But I can forgive that as long as you do not screw the original aspect ratio.

Does anyone know, which Box set is the “ultimate” set?

Is there one that will contain everything or is Funimation and/or Amazon doing this on purpose by having two versions of the “exclusive” box sets? I see huge differences and just want to own this series on Blu Ray and obtain the best possible product.

Amazon has 2 art books plus the box and the FUNi has many other smaller goodies. Does either one of them contain ALL of the items?
