Why does video playback sometimes switch between high and low resolution?

The FUNimation Subscription Service video player uses adaptive bitrate streaming. Depending on your internet connection, it will adjust the quality of the video to maintain playability without pausing to buffer. If you are on a slower connection and would like to maintain 720p playback throughout, let the video buffer for at least a minute or two before playing.
