Re: FUNi acquires 'We Without Wings – Under the Innocent Sky' (Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai)

fact just because you don't like something doesn't mean everyone else shares your opinion. there are people who buy these types of shows so if funi can get a good deal why wouldn't they release them?

There are people that buy every known type of show. That really isn't enough of a reason to license something.
Say Funi got a good deal is entirely guesswork on your part. Funi does not even post sales estimates for their series. Forget about making the cost for acquiring any specific anime known.

I like Oretachi and I'm glad they licensed this!

You just said most people don't deserve to live. The quoted comment from you can not be taken seriously.
I was being purposefully hyperbolic in an attempt to highlight the need for fans to stick together and not be so brutal to each other all the time. I know the Internet lacks the auditory cues that help people detect things like sarcasm but given the overall tone of my post, I thought it was pretty obvious I wasn't being serious with that line.

One of these days I'm going to learn my lesson and just be completely clear when posting something. There always seems to be someone who misunderstands my odd sense of humor or way of saying things. hmm

I honestly want to see fans get along. There just aren't enough anime fans that double as anime consumers right now for us to pointlessly attack each others likes and dislikes. It's especially pointless to get upset over something we had the power to prevent and didn't.

Why is Funimation not licensing more Higurashi? Fans didn't put their money where their mouths were. Me, I bought the Geneon release volumes and the ones Funi distributed but I didn't re-buy the series. Would me or others re-buying have changed things? I don't know. What I do know is that fandom failed to back-up the claims that Higurashi was a really popular show. People came up with all kinds of excuses for not buying it and, well, you get what you pay for folks.

The fact is though that it no longer matters. As of now, Funi's got no plans for more of that franchise. I think that sucks but unless I win the lottery, there's very little I can do about it.

None of that has much of anything to do with this license though. I say give We Without Wings a chance! It's not the series' fault that whatever you did want to see licensed didn't get licensed or that another series was dropped. If you want to blame someone, blame the so-called fans who don't buy diddly but lay off your fellow fans who do support the anime they like.

Now personally I don't know if I'll love, hate or anything in-between We Without Wings. I'll give it a shot though because I've got an open mind. dumb

I can get frustrated and angry too. Generally I try to reserve it for people who deserve it, like the obsessed crazy "my opinion is superior, I'm better than you, no one is more awesome than me!" types you find on the 'net. Sometimes I post my venom on the less deserving and sometimes I'm just in a bad mood and post something reflecting that bad mood. I'm mortal and thus flawed.

Overall I try to be open minded because I'd like other fans to be open minded of my likes and dislikes. I'd like to be able to share my thoughts on a show freely and without having to feel like I'm going to get my head chewed off. It's not hard to chill out a bit every now and then. If you already watched this show and didn't like it, fine, but just don't harange others who haven't seen it or who did and liked it. Diversity of thought is a valuable thing and, who knows, maybe you'll give the show a second chance and suddenly love it! (That happened to me with Kiddy Grade.)

And I apologize for the wall of text. I am overly wordy.

Well Funi re-releasing Geneon anime does not obligate fans to fork over their cash again. Funi is SOL if they don't consider the sales of WTC from the Geneon's first release along with their re-release when considering if the 2nd season warrants licensing. Your poor humor might by infinite but an anime fan's money certainly is not.

The only thing I know WWW has over Higurashi is that there will not be an established fanbase for the dub so no one is going to be asking for pesky(expensive) talent from LA. That right there saves Funi money and reduces hassles, win-win.

This show gets a lot of hate around the internet but it has me laughing out loud constantly. I can't ask for more than that from a comedy. Day one purchase for me.

Re: FUNi acquires 'We Without Wings – Under the Innocent Sky' (Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai)

It's been about two weeks since this was announced. I was initially somewhat disappointed about this, because there are so many shows that I would prefer to see Funimation pick up. The second part is still true, but I am actually starting to look forward to this release. This series has a lot of criticism, much is which I think is well deserved. However, I find that this show can be a lot better if you approach it with the right mindset.

This season, I tried all of the new shows that Crunchyroll was streaming. I expected that I would hate this show, and a couple of others. Of the 14 shows I started this season, I only dropped one of them (A Bridge to the Starry Skies), and this was not my least favorite of the ones I kept. When I started watching this show, I was expecting to hate it but trying to have a good time at least making fun of it. The show beat me to it, I think, because it does not take itself seriously at all.

I understand that the fanservice can really turn some people away from this show. If you really can't stand fanservice at all, then this show is not for you. On the other hand, if you just dislike it when shows seem to use fanservice to get more viewers, it might be worth a try. Also, I recommend trying more than just the first episode, or at least finishing the first one. It gets better around 15 minutes in, when the third protagonist is introduced.

I personally dislike harem shows in general, but I don't think that the focus is on the harem aspect. It actually has a really good plot, though it is extraordinarily confusing. It is probably better if you can watch the first few episodes at once.

Basically, this show isn't as it first appears. The fanservice actually seems to increase as the show goes on, but the haremesque parts decrease. The plot is actually very psychological, and I really recommend re watching some of the first episode after finishing the series. Also, there are a ton of characters, and I gave up on telling a couple of the girls apart. I recommend keeping track of the male characters' full names, because they will be referred to by both surname and given name, and it is important to know which male character is being talked about.
