I was just wondering about this myself... it'd be nice to hear when/if this is gonna happen
Still no blu-ray release? Isn't it strange that the other titles they got from Geneon have a blu-ray release. Or am I wrong on that? Did only a few of Geneon titles get onto blu-ray.

Trigun isn't one of the titles that FUNi got from Geneon. Rather, Trigun was licensed from its Japanese distribution company, Flying Dog a.k.a. Victor Entertainment.
That said, no Japanese BD release means the prospects for a US BD release are slim to non-existent.

But Trigun was put out by Geneon. I'm not insane, the old Geneon DVDs are still on RightStuf.

Geneon or not, the first line of the article in my opening post says they licensed the series for a blu-ray release, back at the time of the announcement ANN werent the only ones to report this so there must be some truth to it.
imo it doesnt make sense for them to license a blu ray release and then not do it
that avatar...my eyes!
That's fine, but the original press release the news article is based on makes no specific mention of Blu-Ray rights or any BD release.

so basically ANN was just under the assumption that they would release a BD?
And their convention report where the FUNi rep (Adam) either said as much or at least heavily implied they were planning a BD release.
Regardless, without any HD masters there cannot be any HD release.

Trigun is an older series and as such recorded on 35mm film. 35mm film is capable of producing a fine HD transfer as its "inherent" resolution is a lot higher than the 1080p we see on blu-rays. As long as the original reel is in good condition, HD transfers can be made from any film.
