Is the new Funimation release of Trigun different than the old 2001 Pioneer Released one with Johnny Young Bosch as Vash? I have that set and did not know if this was a re-release or a whole new telling of the story.

Question about the Funimation Release
It has the sam dub if that is what you mean. The video should also be the same. It is all in all, just a repackaging.
Dragon Piece is correct. We also have the Trigun Badlands Rumble movie coming, which is new. ^_^

Nothing has changed with this release. It was left complete intact from its original English release.
i do have a question about rumble... how is wolfwood in it? he died in the series.. anyone could answer that i would be greatful

Yep Nobu is right, the movie is set before Wolfwoods Death in the series.. not 100% but I think its between episode 13 & 14. Or somthing like that.
