Offer something worth paying for.

crying
So, I first came across Funimation on YouTube, and i absolutely fell in love! I was able to watch all of these amazing animes, and for free! It was so easy and amazing! Now, I noticed all of the English Dubbed versions of anime's are pretty much gone, there's just 1-4 episodes left on there. At first I was SOOO upset, but then I came to realize that it really was too good to be true and decided to look further into Funimation and see if they had a Netflix kinda thing. Somewhere I could stream English Dubbed animus for a monthly cost. Then I stumbled on "Elite Video Subscriptions" or something to that extent. Thought I found what I was looking for, only to be surprised that by paying the $7.95, which is within reason, I still won't be able to access some of the English Dubbed Videos, even ones that were on YouTube. I'm fine with paying, but I'm not going to pay if it's not what I want. tear

Think of the Elite Video Subscriptions like an art gallery, there is a limited amount of anime coming in (to make it financially feasible) and when something is removed a new anime it put in it's place. The benefit of the Elite subscription is that you'll always have a steady supply of new never before seen anime at your finger tips to watch and enjoy.
However there is a limit to all good things, at some point your favorite series will get taken out of the loop never to be heard from again... but wait there is hope! DVD and Bluray sales my friend, you'll have the best quality available in the palm of your hands never to be taken away again! Prices are cheap too, and with some amazing sales I got the Bluray complete edition of Eden of the East for $10 on Funi's own store, even now you can find great sales on Fairytale.

So yes love is a fleeting thing, it seems Funimation has made their free Youtube channel into more of a trial service (a good business move IMO), with the Elite subscription you'll be provided the complete series, however with both services you run the risk of it being removed never to be seen again.

But all is not lost, even if the current Elite anime lineup doesn't peak your interest, know that in a few weeks you'll have new anime available and you might find your next favorite series.

Hmm that's Funny I thought EVS had access to just about ALMOST all dubs that are DVD/BD.
You really should have given an example TumbleFever

Also there are still free dubs on this very site

Yeah to be honest I don't know much about how the Elite system works, I always thought they took shows down a certain points but I could be completely wrong. I would be amazed though if they had episodes 1-4 of an anime streaming on Youtube and did not have it playing on the Elite service.

I have to agree with you on this, I'm not terribly impressed with funimation's website right now. I subscribed to CR first, but was very hesitant knowing their website had suspect beginnings (but hey, they have a B rating with the BBB). I discovered funimation's website later and subscribed, wherein I discovered that compared to CR:

  • The website is slower, cluttered, and harder to navigate.
  • The video player is terribly buggy (tried on Windows 7, Windows XP, with Chrome and Firefox on each OS)
Overall the website strikes me as being more fluff than functional, hence my disappointment. But when your options for watching a particular show fall into either legal vs. illegal, I guess I'll fork over 8 bucks a month.

St0ck -
I view funimation's streaming, CR, and hulu as being closer to cable TV. You pay for the service, and if you like the show you can buy the DVD/Bluray later. As far as quality, I have always thought DVD/bluray subtitles look absolutely awful and still do. If you can convert to MKV at least you can control font, size, color, etc. I have also seen way too much license taken with dubs/subs before (Those Who Hunt Elves comes to mind). Personally, I would rather have a joke/pun/cultural reference explained at the end of an episode rather than get stuck with a lousy interpretation. (Seriously, I have the ADV films DVDs of Those Who Hunt Elves, it's almost a completely different show if you watch the dub vs. the sub).

There are currently 151 and a half pages of dubbed anime available only toe subscribers, at 24 episodes per page, which I make out to be 3640 episode in total.

Despite the sites habitual errors that come about everyday. As a subscriber you have a huge amt of access to both dub and sub show. Many of which I have seen commercial free to boot.

"you'll have the best quality available in the palm of your hands never to be taken away again! Prices are cheap too" I don't know what your thinking but for the average, shipping+ item cost your paying just to get something ill say is "refurbished" for an English audience by Funimation Is way to much. and ill back up my statement with my own experience I got dub/sub blue ray limited edition of Rosario + vampire season 1 and 2(capu) for $22.72 Canadian(including shipping and tax) the only difference between my copy and Funimations release was my copy was published by the Japanese rights owner and was blue ray, but for the Funimation release it costs $115.21 (including shipping and tax) so not only was my videos quality better, but I payed a little less then 1/5 what Funimation would of charged me. pfff. cheap you say, best quality you say, not even close. I have roughly a $20,000 anime DVD/ Blue ray collection and if I go by what Funimations price schemes are it is a $50,000 collection. don't get me wrong I like what Funimation does and so I buy blue rays and DVDs from Funimation, but not to get the Anime I am paying for but to put money into their pockets so they can dub more shows and strengthen the anime industry.

I also agree with dispersion123. on the dub quality, and sub quality. I love anime/manga to such an extreme I learned Japanese through my local University, and as sad as it is to say Fan subbers such as "gg", "horrible subs", and "commie" who I regard as the best give better translations then Funimation does by leaps and bounds and to deepen the wound they don't get paid to sub anime they just do it as a hobby!

Is it safe to take into consideration that the website is still labeled as Beta at the top and that a better system is in the works? hmm

Totally agree with you. I think this is something we gota understand and remember. It's because they are in beta (an open beta too wich is really cool), that i think funimation appreciates all the reports they get about the bugs in the system and the many suggestions on how they might improve the over all experience.
