Video buffering problem

I've tried internet explorer, firefox and google chrome. The videos just don't buffer. Your video player only allows me to buffer a little over a minutes worth at a time, which means I can't fix my problem by pausing the show and letting it load. If I buffer the full minute and play, it catches up really fast and then it will only buffer 1-3 seconds at a time, pausing for 1-3 seconds in between. Yours is the only player that has this problem. You need to fix your players so we can at least pause it and load the entire show.

Re: Video buffering problem

The free and subscription FUNimation players both use adaptive bitrate streaming and are not designed to buffer more than a few minutes. This means that if your internet connection is less than 1000 Kbp/s, the player will not run smoothly. You can test your connection speed by visiting speedtest.net.

Other players, like Hulu and Youtube, do have the option to turn off adaptive bitrate, but ours does not have this feature currently.

Re: Video buffering problem

I have 30.88 mbps and I've never had a problem with the players before. It's not my connection. It's not my computer. It's your player. Sorry if I'm being a jerk but watching anime legally should not be this frustrating.

Re: Video buffering problem

I've been watching various shows on this site for quite some time, but in the last month or so I've been having this same issue, and it seems to be getting worse. I let it go a while to see if it would work properly again, but this is going on too long.

Right now I can either have the video skip every couple seconds, which is near unwatchable, or repeatedly pause & play to buffer a little and choose the moments where it skips, which is only slightly better than the alternative.

Re: Video buffering problem

Not here to complain, just share my experience. I'm not on too often but was this evening and had the same/similar issue as described by the OP. In my case the player buffered about 2 minutes of show but didn't seem to continue buffering while playing. It seemed to only resume buffering after manually pausing and playing again, so I was essentially watching 2 minute chunks with a buffering pause in between.

I'll reload the browser and re-login to see if there's any change. {Edit: this didn't seem to have any effect}

Also I'm using chrome and am a subscriber, but not clear on what the difference is between the subscription & free players, but I assume I'm using the former since i'm signed in and not seeing ads.

Re: Video buffering problem

Thank you. I've reported this to the developers.

FUNimation.com Players Definitions:

Hulu player - The embedded player from Hulu.com. It is the default player for free regular users living in America.

FUNimation Free Player - sometimes also referred to as the "free player". For free regular users living in America, this is the player that is used when there is no Hulu video. For free regular users living in Canada, this is the default player because Hulu is not available in Canada.

Subscription Player - the only player used for subscription video content. It is available to Elite Video Subscribers living in America and Canada. If we do not have SVOD rights for a show, then the Hulu or free player will come up instead. If we don't have SVOD rights in Canada, then the free player will show up instead.

Re: Video buffering problem

I'm also having trouble with the Princess Jellyfish series. I finally gave up on Episode 2 because it would play for a few minutes and then stop, and I'd have to find my place again. The sub for episode 2 works much better, but it did show the same stopping eventually. It sounds like other people are having trouble too, so I'm guessing it's not just this show. My viewing experience is usually smooth and trouble-free, which I definitely appreciate. smile I'm looking forward to seeing this problem resolved.

Re: Video buffering problem

Princess Jellyfish seems to be hosted/streaming from Hulu.com try going there and play straight off their webpage.
