Re: Suddenly, a Blank Subscription Player!

I think i's time Funimation admit their IT staff hasn't a clue, and start letting paper weights go so they can make room for actual programmers Maybe they should hitre some high school kids to maintain it since the programing would probably be done better.

Seriously you have a message board admin who's main troubleshooting suggestion is to reload until the player starts?

You should also open the purse strings and invest in a dev, test and production environment making sure nothing touches prod unti it passes the other two areas this way you could also learn how to roll back changes that breaks something

Re: Suddenly, a Blank Subscription Player!

Oh, just as a side note to this issue, because it hasn't been addressed:

Netflix are the people who control what anime you see on Netflix, and they are the ones who are making the decisions on what they decide to get from us and renew. Obviously, we have a say in that process, of course, but we would actually like to put MORE anime onto Netflix than we currently do.

My understanding is that we pretty much offer everything to them that we have the rights to be able to do so, and they are the ones that make the decision on whether they think they can make a profit on it or not. So you can actually vote for more anime being available just by using their service more.

Honestly, although I don't know the business end of this AT ALL, and this just represents my PERSONAL opinion, not FUNimation's, but I don't think we're really in competition with Netflix. The services are two completely different things. Sure, they both offer streaming, but you get all the other stuff with Netflix and you get way more anime with funimation.com. I personally use both services and it really just depends on what I'm currently watching on what sees the most use.

Well the player still seems unstable most of the animes won't load on the first try you have to refresh once or twice to get them to work I hope this gets fixed soon

Re: Suddenly, a Blank Subscription Player!

Is funimation pushing for that major update more so now that there are frequent issues with the site? Im sure dumping more money into the upgrade would be cheaper than dealing with all these issues and subscription cancellations...

Psyco-Pass won't load even after multiple screen refreshes.

Re: Suddenly, a Blank Subscription Player!

I signed up for my free trial last week, and the way things are going I'm strongly considering cancelling it before I get billed. I like the content Funimation offers, but I hate ads with the fire of a thousand dying suns. Right now, my options are to watch it with ads or not watch it at all. As a programmer myself, I try to be sympathetic to the troubles other developers endure, but this is a grade A critical priority defect that isn't showing any real progress.

I feel sorry for CJ, though! Hang in there, and please understand that our complaints are about the service, not about you. You've been very helpful and informative, there's just not a lot you can do when the player refuses to load. Please convey our frustrations to anyone in charge - they need to understand that this is an absolutely massive customer satisfaction issue.

Re: Suddenly, a Blank Subscription Player!

I've been experiencing these difficulties for a while now. I've tried things in the hopes that I could somehow effect a difference on my end (switching browsers, tunneling through AWS) and the results are the same. According to Firebug, the funimation.com website is returning 404 errors for pretty much any .swf file I request on my end, and knowing that you recently changed some things server-end I'm inclined to think the issue is environmental.

Also, as an aside, when I visit the Haganai main page (haven't verified that this is the case with others), it loads a small art piece that is hard to make out and loads incredibly slowly. A quick examination turned this up:

  • Size: 1,381.54 KB (1,414,698 bytes)
  • Dimensions: 3,307px × 4,568px (scaled to 224px × 300px)
As highly available and heavily hit as your site is, it might save on your server load and bandwidth costs to generate thumbnails for casual viewers but link to that image for those seriously interested.

Re: Suddenly, a Blank Subscription Player!

Oh, don't worry, I don't take any of it personally. Any frustration you're picking up from me is just because I know how hard our teams behind the scenes are working, and I know that they are intelligent, competent people that I'm very pleased to be working with.

These issues are bigger than toggling a switch or kicking the side of a computer until it works. My only frustration here is that people (myself included!) are so used to getting the runaround from companies that aren't actually doing anything to fix things, and don't listen to their customer's complaints, that everyone automatically views everything in that light.

We know this hasn't been easy for anyone-- and we're all anime watchers ourselves, I've been without my Roku just as long as you guys have, and have to refresh the website just as many times!

Thank you for your continued patience, and your support, everyone.

And, as always, if you have any concerns about your EVS subscription, please direct them to . I cannot stress enough that they are the only ones who can help you with them.

Re: Suddenly, a Blank Subscription Player!

Hey Tech Support Team,

So it seems the updates you implemented about an hour or so ago have crashed the EVS player once again.

This is the exact same thing that happened last Friday. The site was down for the entire weekend. Why not install the update on Monday morning? This way if things don't work out you have the rest of the work day to fix them rather then leaving the site broken all weekend?

From what I have read on the forums it seems that this is not a new issue. I have read that the site is consistently broken and has followed this pattern for a long time.

If the site is down the entire weekend again I feel obligated to cancel my subscription. Its just not right that I am paying for services that I do not receive. I really hope you are able to resolve the issue and I can continue to provide my support to your company.

-Best of Luck
