Android App Crashing

When I try to view the list of shows in the Android Funimation app, it is crashing. It has been doing this since the issue with the video player from Friday. Any ideas on how to fix?

also here. more info is this: the app starts up perfectly fine. then it takes forever to load the the shows tab. It then crashes before it can load everything. lately it has been crashing even before any of the shows pop up. tried restarting tablet and re-installing. only made problem worse. also, on top of that the player on the main site is not working on Firefox with the flash player on android. confirmed flash player works, tested on another site. I realize you are working on the blank screen for EVS, but this is for regular subscription.

pylinaer - Can you send a screenshot of what you're talking about with the regular player to ? I'd like to take a closer look at that, if it's not an issue with the EVS player-- it might be something totally different.

I don't currently have a way to test the Android app specifically, but the iOS app seems to be working fine at the moment. Are you still having issues with the apps?

Re: Android App Crashing

CJ - I've been having the same experience as the others with the paid app-- slow load times and application crashes when browsing Shows. I'm a new member as of yesterday, so I couldn't say it's ever worked for me.

The app starts fine, and even plays Featured video from the main landing screen. I can navigate to the Videos section and play content from that screen. If I navigate around the Videos section a bit by changing the Episodes/Movies/Clips/Trailers filter and switch Recent/Popular/All tabs, I can eventually get it to crash. This section seems to be more stable than the Shows section.

In the Shows section, the first screen generally loads on a fresh start, but then the app crashes when I select a show. Sometimes it gets as far as loading some of the content, but generally crashes as soon as I select the show. After it crashes for the first time, the app cannot even seem to complete loading the content for the Shows landing screen. It becomes extremely unstable.

The situation seems to improve a bit when I clear the cache for the app. I can navigate around the Videos area, and even scroll through the list of series in the Shows section. Sometimes I can even select a series and start to load information, but never to the extent where I could select and start content from within the Shows section.

It's doing this across multiple android tablets and devices. I have both Android 4.1 and 4.2 devices-- mostly Nexus devices. My experience is similar between the two devices I've installed the app on.

Edit: Disabling my IPv6 tunnel seems to have improved matters. So does navigating in portrait orientation. Not fix, just improve.

I reported this same issue in the thread "Suddenly, a Blank Subscription Player! " Post #108. I've been experiencing this for about 4 days now. I initially started with the black screen problem and it continually degraded to the point where it crashes when loading the "Shows" screen.

Here are the relevant screenshots, this happens 100% of the time in BOTH the paid and free Android apps.

Start the app and bring up its menu by tapping the word "FUNIMATION" in the upper left, and get this screen:

Tap the "SHOWS" icon and this next screen displays and the circles twirl for 10-30 seconds:

Then this pops up, and when I click OK the app closes. It does indeed look like it is failing while trying to load the list of shows.

And as the OP said, this started when the recent troubles on the website started. I'll email this to the webmaster email address in a sec.

Goooood hunting, out

Edit: I've emailed this info as CJ requested.

Re: Android App Crashing

The android app is crashing for me too, but it only seems to happen on tablets. I could play shows back fine on my Nexus 4 but once I got on my Nexus 7 tablet, it kept crashing. Sometimes I was able to get through to certain shows, but most shows would just crash (for example, I was able to stream Baccano! fine, but once i hit Trigun it failed). Kind of stupid that I'm forced to watch these shows on my phone. Its bad enough the website has been down almost a week, but now I cant even watch shows on my tablet? I'm still on my 2 week trial period and this is seriously annoying.

Re: Android App Crashing

I apologize if what I said in my previous response was misleading or unclear in any way. While it is always helpful to know about issues with the apps, as occasionally the issues are from our end, the vast majority of app issues for the Android and iOS systems will need to be addressed towards Phunware, the app's developer.

Lagging on the app might be as a result of something on our end, and if you were experiencing these difficulties prior to Tuesday, it could have been part of the server issues we were having over the weekend. However, everything is "working" from a server standpoint with the videos now. (it's technically functional, but definitely not optimized, and we're working to resolve those issues, lagging may occur in the meantime)

If you're still having these kinds of issues with the app, you'll need to contact the developer.

If you are having issues with the actual funimation.com site, however, that's something we can address, here, though it's mostly being addressed in the stickies, currently.

Seems to work with my phone, just having issues with my Android Tablet. I have contacted Phunware and will let you know what I get for a response.

Thank you, crobarian! If you haven't already done so please don't hesitate to share the screencaps I linked to in my earlier post, they're in a public Imgur album.
