Greatest anime movie I've seen, better than any Ghibli movie. I have heard that it is not as good as the Girl Who Leaped Through Time, so I'll have to see that one.
Hmm....better than a lot of Ghibli stuff perhaps, but it'd take a lot to beat out Totoro or Whisper of the Heart for me. Summer Wars is definitely Ghibli-caliber though.
I did only see it two days ago, so my mind is still hyped over it. Maybe in a week or so, when my judgement is cleared, I'll decide whether it is as good as I say it is now.

I can't seem to find any parallels to these two movies.... other than
Drawing style
Storyline concepts
Digivolving
Izzy-like character with glasses
Deadly Missile directed towards main protagonist (Which happened to be a result from the U.S.)
Computer based Internet gateways- also quite bright (white) wallpaper.
Diaboromon-like villain.
(Only added bonus--- Adds a Children's Card Game into the mix---- Too bad it wasn't on Motorcycles.)

Well, both films were directed by Mamoru Hosoda, so there's probably some thematic similarities. But I haven't seen Digimon Adventure.
I have seen that movie and they are right, there are a LOT of simularites between Summer Wars and that movie. I also like it more then SOME ghibli movies but you are not going to beat spirited away, torto, and others for me

Anywho Summer Wars is probably my favorite Non-Ghibli Film. I also like Mamoru Hosoda's other works (Digimon: The Movie, Girl Who Lept Through TIme.) And I agree SW is on par with some ghibli films. I would'nt say better (cause Ghibli is the God of Japanese Cinema, lol.) But it is pretty good.
Nice animation, solid story, decent pacing. Deffinantly worth watching, no matter what type of fan you are.
Sometimes I think I'm the only anime fan who hasn't fangasmed at Ghibli already. Are those movies really so amazing?
Anyway, I loved Summer Wars. The first time I watched it was with my whole family and it turned out to really be a great choice. I think everyone enjoyed it. Also, I don't think I've ever seen any card game seem epic as Hanafuda was made to look in this film. The whole movie was great but those climatic scenes during the game are the best in my opinion.
