Who / what The Bear is is probably the greatest mystery of the series.
It's doubtful it could actually "eat the moon" - for being about magical beings, this is otherwise a quite realistic show.
Perhaps an eclipse related event?
But it could be an "ultimate enemy" sized beast, and would probably take entire pack of WiseWolves and / or others to defeat.
It could also be just a metaphor for something even weirder... a whole group of beings
Let's hope they resolve it better than than other amazing series...
"Bide your time and hold out hope!" - Gankutsuoh ...that we get SPICE AND WOLF SEASON 3! ( and Monte Cristo on Blu Ray. )
A big fight scene seems like it would be counter to the general mood of the series. Speculation, Holo would just try to gather her friends back together and re-establish Yoitsu. Now that I think on it, Holo does mention that she and her friends would sometimes drink/eat grapes that were being fermented to turn into alcohol, and sometimes they would drink with bears who happened to find the grapes. I guess the Moon-eating Bear doesn't run with that group?
Well the anime can get brutal sometimes. I am pretty sure just saving the fight ffor the end would fit the show well as long as its not taking up several episodes. Lawrence has more brains than strength while holo is opposite under certain circumstances. Remember, she was willing to take care of the medio trading fiasco in the last episode. In fact, she insisted to fight them off. So a fight is far from countering the mood.
Reminds me of when I was watching Gankutsuoh - which was based on the novel... written in 1844! ( And an manga, which I didn't know about, which differs also...) How's that for a spoiler?
Much was the same, but they changed a fair amount, including...
Why did Gonzo go bankrupt? They were so good. Samurai 7, another good choice.

Part of the fun is trying to guess it, and unlike 90% of formulaic shows, it's actually a challenge.
Anime doesn't always end happy. Holo really could have left him...
What's in that guy's head? He plays the battle of ironic words quite well, but then doesn't "go with it" when she actually IS being nice.
Too much thinking of romance as a competition, or a business proposition. As I said, Kraft needs his own thread.
Good point, it tends to be short physical battles with a LOT of plotting and deception between.
The "duel" between Amarty and Laurrence was actually more intense than much "action" anime, and they never even threw a punch!
WITH bears, eh? I forgot that quote. So maybe he's The Baddest Bear.
Wolves like the moon, so his "eating" could represent an affront / nullification of their power.
It is a fact that some animals sometimes make themselves drunk from fermented fruit.
What if the bears made "Mead" = honey wine?

Heh, I knew I mentioned the wolf and bear drinking somewhere here, but I still referenced it in that other thread. Better redundant than negligent, right? Anyway, it was an offhand comment during a conversation that didn't make it into the anime. Had a funny image when they put it in the manga, though.
And Lawrence just can't catch a break. Holo teases him so often, which he's become used to, but he's become too used to it and can't really tell when Holo is seriously being nice to him. She kind of brought that on herself, though. Too much mischief.
