Personally I like Black*Star's voice in English, although, still I agree with most, his Japanese one is AWESOME too.
I think his voice is meant to be high-pitched and girly to show he's immature and hasn't reached puberty yet. -- It's just ironic that "The Man Who Overcomes God" and "The Greatest Assassin Ever" has a voice that doesn't fit him.
If he did have a really deep voice, well, it wouldn't be very funny, and personally, I think it would be a bit creepy.
I'd like to hear if you guys have any comments on his voice!

Well, I think most people aren't really fond of Black*star's dub - to be frank, I'm one of those people.
Really, it's a nice try at a high-pitched, young male voice, but it just seemed a little to. . .girlish? Naruto is also voiced by a female in it's dub, but it sounded more boy-ish, when you compare it to Black*Star's.
I'm a SUB watcher at heart, I can't say I dislike Star's sub actor.
Honestly, I love Soul Eater's dub, but even I went 'What...is going on' the first time I heard Karbowski's Star. I love her usual work, she's a fine actress, but she just wasn't quite right for Black Star I don't think.

I did a double take when I heard Black*Star's voice, but that was because I had thought that he was a muscular, 'mature' character. (HAHAHAhahaha. ha. Fail.)
I love her (Karbowski) as Black*Star, the voice she used, to me, was perfect after putting in Black*Star's personality. However, the Japanese voice is well done. This is coming from a person, until recently, was a sub purist. That isn't to say I didn't like dubs, but I would only watch after I saw it subbed and I loved the series. When I decided I wanted to be a voice actress, I knew I needed to start watching dubbed, and I just fell in love with it. Furthermore, the first two I saw dubbed (after the "I'd better start watching dubbed") was Spice&Wolf, and Soul Eater, both of which has a wonderful cast who did a great job.
Edit: (So I don't double post) Both the dub and sub voices were well done, and they both, to me, sound like 'Black*Star'. There is never a set voice for a character, so I always find it... annoying? When some Purists get upset because the voice doesn't sound exactly like it does in Japanese. There' more then one way to draw a flower and still have it look pretty.
I never tried his voice in JPN. When I got the disc from netflix I just did the dub only, lol. MAybe when I get the Blu-Rays I guess next month? I will see how he sounds in JPN. He is my favorite character.

never make any astoundingly biased statement's like that again. it will tick people off
anyways as for my opinion lets see: both seem to fit the personality to a "T". cant really rag on either one
My problem with the English Black*Star is that I could tell right away he was being voiced by a girl, which makes me immediately picture a grown up actress in a recording studio rather than the voice belonging to the character. It ruins the suspension of disbelief for me and takes me out of it. Then I hear the Japanese Black*Star and he just sounds so much more natural and funny and it's got that slight lisp which just tickles me to no end.
I can't really knock on Brittney's acting, she plays him adequately, but it was her first young boy role and she wasn't that good at sounding natural at it yet. The dub itself is really good I think though, Black*Star just never sounded natural to me.
I didn't like his voice, once I heard him it was quite obvious that he is being voiced by a woman.
As far as the original voice, I can't comment on it as I've yet to watch Soul Eater with the Japanese audio.
As for the english dub, I went into Soul Eater with no previous knowledge of the manga or characters and when I first heard the voice I was rather skeptical. About 30 seconds later, when Black*Star's personality became apparent, I completely retracted my initial opinion.
So, as far as my thoughts on the Black*Star dub go, I found Karbowski's portrayal and voice to be both superb and fitting.
My biggest problem with Black Star's English voice isn't so much that she makes him sound too much like a girl...my problem lies with her delivery. Yumiko Kobayashi gives the character an INSANE amount of energy, practically non-stop...Karbowski just sounds flat in comparison. And I find she also doesn't convey his likable/annoying arrogance nearly as well.
Much like the dub as a whole, I think Karbowski is perfectly adequate...but no more then that.
