Which of the 5 Seasons (arguably 4 if you combine Revolution and Evolution-R) is your favorite?
I would have to say that my favorite season was the first one. In my opinion, Rezzo was the best villain, and the first season had the best plot.

For me, it's probably...Season 2 (Net) or 3 (Try). The first season, I don't know what it is, but...I wasn't in love with the characters or the story until it was almost over. It just felt like a drag, and I wondered why this was such a renowned show, but then out of nowhere (and I still don't know what it was), it suddenly felt awesome.

"There are two kinds of folks who sit around thinking about how to kill people. Psychopaths, and mystery writers. I'm the kind that pays better."
My favorite would be Try, but my favor is due more to circumstances rather than to a critical comparison. The time between which I watched Next and Try was somewhat long, and I had actually forgotten just how much I enjoyed the franchise. So, I suppose Try is my favorite because it revived my appreciation for The Slayers. That and the OP song for Try is my favorite of the Slayer OP songs.
My favorite was season two, Slayers NEXT. It brings back a great established cast, it ups the excitement with more vicious villains like Demon Dragon King Gaav and Hellmaster Phibrizzo, and it has some of the best music of the franchise (the NEXT opening Give A Reason is one of Megumi Hayashibara's best songs). The element that really makes this season the best is the introduction "the mysterious priest" Xellos. He's the game changer that brings this season up to a new level of action, comedy, and fun.
This is my favorite thing to do on the forum:
Try was too bogged down with plot, but Next was what a Slayers season should be: Three episodes of fantasy/action arc, and then three "filler" episodes to kick back, relax, and take a Tenchi-style look at what endearing oddballs our heroes are. (And Lina's frustration at the latest town's less-than-epic traditions, like the dragon-cuisine or idol-singer episodes.) Just now getting into Evolution-R, and with more filler and humor, I'm hoping it'll be the Slayers Next of the "revival" series. And just since nobody's mentioned E-R yet: I never could stand the Naga OAV series, since they felt like they were produced by completely alien companies: Cheaper animation design, Lina more obnoxious than lovably-nasty, and a distractingly ugly male-bashing bent that pushed the show one step away from Xena. Now that "Nama" ("Or I think that's what the name is, I can't remember!") has shown up in E-R, think it's more than just a running gag to see what lengths the show goes to to stay away from showing any direct corporate reference or visual depiction of You-Know-Who, apart from the obviously familiar voice and gags...Too bad they couldn't have gotten ADV's old Kelly Manison back, who got as close to The Laugh as it was possible for an American to get.
As much as I love the first series for getting me into anime, Next is my favorite season by far, mainly due to the last episode and a half, which I use to watch every day for some time. It easily had one of the best climaxes in any anime I've ever seen, then and now. Xelos was an excellent addition to the cast, and Gaav and my username were very good villians to combat. The story was a step up from the first season(which was good as well), and the comedy was the best in the entire series(particularly memorable was Zelgadis being used as an anchor). Try was decent but seemed to be missing something, and I was very disappointed in R/evolution. It was little more than a rehash of the first season done much worse. So anyway, yeah, Next was awesome.

I gotta go Slayers Try here. The character mix was just right.

I only seen the original 2 seasons. I have to see the 3rd season on my boxset. But so far, I like NEXT the most.
I like NEXT. It had the right balance of humor, action, drama, and pace. It was so much better than Season 1, which dragged on until the very end.
I also like the Movies and OVAs with Lina and Naga. Those were a nice change of pace. Plus I adore Naga.
It's too difficult for me to single out a season of Slayers and say this one is better, this one is worse... for me I take the whole thing together because I like all of it. I like Lina Inverse in almost all variants, I like the magical swords and sorcery, the adventure, the stupidity, and the challenges of each new mega-villain.
If I were to take a single season, or episode out of the whole, I'd be overly analyzing it, and put it under too critical a microscope; and it wouldn't hold up singularly like that. So I'll just say that I don't have a favorite season, or OVA or Movie... it's all amazing.
