General Sankarea Discussion

Since no one has started a topic for this show yet, thought I might as well. Opening up the main topic of this page, what do you think about the show?

Personally, even though I've only seen the first couple of episodes, this show is dripping with potential and already shows signs of both being a great comedy and a tear-jerking tragedy; something worth keeping an eye on.

Re: General Sankarea Discussion

I have been watching this fansubbed for a bit over a week because finals ended, a friend recommend this show to me for good reason, and the show is already 7 episodes in. and after all that waiting for this shockingly well executed series, the subs within the first three minutes of the show proved to be far inferior to the fansubs I had been watching, since they had very similar translations while one managed to repeat the same two words almost three time in a row.

I expect better out of funi (since they are my favorite anime company). I would buy this series on dvd or bluray with a dub, but unless funimation proves to me they are actually going to treat this show with more respect then the fansubbers then I won't be watching their subs of it. also funi needs to work on it's definition of simulcast because the only episode aired within a week of it's japanese counter part is probably going to be at best episode 9-12 however I doubt that and think it will only be episodes 11-12. I wish funi would either simulcast shows like other companies do, or just pick up shows once they are done. I personally don't like the idea of a confirmed dvd/bluray + dub before the show is even finished (unless it is something like fairy tail, sket dance, etc.)

you worry too much. the simulcast subtitles will always be fixed for DVD/BD release. The holdup was due to lack of materials they needed from Japan. not much they could do with that problem. You may not like the idea of licensing a show before it has ended, but that is exactly what happens with nearly every show. each company is given the chance to view something like a promo vid or detailed explanation of the show and they decide there if they want to bid for the license. this is of course with new shows. otherwise, if they waited on it, they wouldn't get it.

Re: General Sankarea Discussion

the point still remains that you could just download a raw online and do an initial translation based on how you hear it, in this situation, and then done a second pass once the materials with the scripts came in. also the full song has been out for a while now, which means the script is also out, so there is no reason why the opening should have any errors, (aside from the obvious error, I don't see any others or else where in the release). however how someone missed such an obvious error can only be due to lack of quality checking and not having someone else go over the scripts.

I understand the materials delayed the start of the simulcast but everyone else can start simulcast ontime and do actual simulcast instead of funimation, why is this a funimation specific problem. I fully agree with zac that funimations stance that we can put it out whenever we want and people will still watch it is rediculous and ignores a major portion of anime fans. I could understand if it has to do with funi being an R1 company and wanting more rights, but that is putting the cart before the horse in many cases in my opinion. I

Which leads to my next point liscensing for DVD and Bluray and saying you'll dub something before the story is finished is a bad idea. this is because a bad ending can kill fan support for a series. case in point fractale, funimation licensed it after 7 episodes and then the series took a nose dive and people started to hate and even despise the series. I bet that the preorder numbers for the set are horrible, why because people no longer want it, when they initially did. which is really sad since not only did they spend a lot of money on it, but they also made such a wonderful trailer for it, that is among my favorites of the ones they've done.

PS if you are going say funimation should base their licensing model on sentai's then you should a lot of people are saying that their model is going to bury sentai just like it almost did when they where called ADV.

well, neither of us work for Funi. we can stand/sit around and come up with ideas/demands for this whole process all day, but whats the point. they know more about this than we do and clearly there are things they are aware of that will never to told to us. I don't know about you, but im going to sit back, chill and let them do their thing and appreciate the fact that we can now legally watch this show rather than come up with a laundry list of things that i assume would make this process easier. and i dont recall comparing them to sentai

At first I was really annoyed with Funi's simulcast speed for this show, but I don't mind much anymore since it's letting me mini marathon it. I really like the balance of creepy and comedic. That's something that's hard to do, and Sankarea is pulling it off fairly well.

Re: General Sankarea Discussion

I have been keeping up with the Manga myself, and was really happy with how this is turning out. I honestly expected the whole story with Rea's Dad to be censored, which would have been understandable but really annoying. It seems to have kept very close to the manga, I believe the original author is keeping a close eye on it and has some direct influence in its direction, and if this trend keeps up I believe I know about where it would end with this first part of the series. Here is hoping there will more as the author continues the manga.

And if the guys at Funi are reading this, thanks for bringing this over!

Re: General Sankarea Discussion

I just finished reading all of the manga and I'm very happy with the adaptation so far. It's paced well and I can't wait to see if they'll make a unique ending or let the manga get farther then continue adapting.

Re: General Sankarea Discussion

I hope FUNimation ends up licensing all the OVAs for their possible blu ray release too
