Ayame just barely avoids this one by diving headfirst into the portal. She came out as if she was jumping out of the ground next to that tree outside the school. She landed a bit to the left of the portal, and swung her head around, sweeping her eyes across the open space, searching for Lai.

As Ayame stepped away from the portal, this big green floating monster-ish thing drifted up to her, drooling drops of green goo that evaporated before it hit the ground. It was covered in oozing pustules, and seemed to sizzle and steam. It menacingly approached her, gnashing its teeth. It reached out to her with not-quite-solid, waving arms, and she backed away from it. It stood - no - planted itself in the air between her and the portal. Tendrils trailed behind it, seeming to reach for the portal, tasting it, and savoring it. It seemed to like the portal very much. Perhaps its was that these green creatures liked portals?

"What am I supposed to attack them with?" Ayame yelled over the ghosts' snarling and growling. She took up a defensive position, and swiped a punch at the blue ghost (whose eyeballs were rolling around in his skull. this one actually looked more like a skeleton), but her fist ended up slowly sinking into its... ectoplasm?? She tried to pull it out, but it was stuck tight, and the ghost sorta grinned and flipped over, in effect flipping Ayame over also. She landed on her back, having the air knocked out of her. But at least her hand was free... and covered in slightly glowing blue goo.

Ayame caught the ghost sword that the ninja guy tossed her. It was unsheathed. How incredibly dangerous. Ayame leaped up and swung the sword down diagonally across the blue ghost's "chest". A clean cut. The ghost exploded, covering her and the surrounding area with blue slime.
