Today's New Release Tuesday is brought to you by the letter "S." We may not have Super Grover and cookies, but we do have Shangri-La parts 1 & 2 on DVD and Shakugan no Shana Season 1 on BD/DVD Combo! This is the first time that Shana has been available in blu-ray, so fans of the series can finally see Shana in High Def.
But, first up, let's talk about Shangri-La. We're kinda suckers for a good resistance speech. Just check out the trailer below!
series synopsis:
In the distant future, earthquakes and the effects of global warming have splintered Japanese society. Some struggle hand-to-mouth in the jungle-tangled ruins of civilization. Some live comfortably within the closed-off city of Atlas. Others lurk online, anonymously hacking the global economy. As nature grows more violent and the divide between classes expands, one spirited girl - Kuniko - must face her destiny and lead her people into the utopia of Atlas. The city's ruthless government isn't going to welcome them with open arms, but Kuniko won't give up until the gates of Atlas are kicked open for good - even if it means discovering that the promised land she dreamed of is built upon a foundation of twisted secrets and lies.
And now, Shana! Some of you may have noticed that the eagerly anticipated Shakugan no Shana Season Two Part 1 & Part 2 releases have been delayed, but that’s because we’re packing the release full of EXTRAS! Including the animated specials of: Why? What? Shana! Ask Anything Question Box (aka Naze Nani Shana), and Shakugan no Shana-tan. So while there may be a bit of a wait, it’s all so we could make the release just a little more special for all of you. So, hopefully this release of Shakugan no Shana Season One will tide you over until December.
series synopsis:
From the studio behind Toradora! and Okami-san and her Seven Companions comes the iconic series centered around the heated bond and supernatural battles of two friends from two very different worlds. Wielding a blazing sword, Shana is a fiery huntress whose sole purpose is to fight demon-like beings that consume human lives. To reduce the impact on the human realm, Shana turns the slain into shadows of their former selves. Once a flame that represents their remaining life goes out, they fade from existence. This should be Yuji's fate, but when he discovers he holds a special power that ignites a newfound strength in Shana, they join forces in her ongoing mission to maintain the balance between the ordinary world and the supernatural.
So, today's pretty super! Superb. Smashing, even. Which splendid series are you seriously considering?
For all you digital fans, don't worry, we haven't forgotten you. For a limited time today, Shakugan no Shana episode 1 in HD will be FREE to download on Sony, Xbox, and iTunes. Shangri-La episode 1 will be FREE on Sony and Xbox. So, remember to check those stores later today to take advantage of this offer.

Love both series (I've had Shangri-la preordered for quite a while now through rightstuf and got it yesterday). I'll pick up the reissue of the first season of Shana eventually. From what I've read on the Japanese blu rays they were utter crap and from the sounds of it that's what Funimation used for their master for this set. If the DVD is BETTER quality then the blu ray I am in no hurry to replace my geneon Shana set quite yet (though like I said I will pick it up eventually).
For those of you who don't have the geneon set this is a good series, one of my favorites, actually BOTH of the released ones today are in my top 5. I recommend them quite a lot. Probably has a lot to do with my love of girls kicking ass that american stuff just doesn't do well.
I'd ask about a possible blu ray set for Shangri-la but I've read up on the Japanese release of it and know I shouldn't hold my breath. Here's hoping it sells well enough that the Japanese producers will help.
Shakugan no Shana S1 is finally out! I can't wait to get it soon as well as the long anticipated Shana S2!
