Alliances - Not of the Unholy Kind

We just announced via FUNimation.com that we have entered a 'Strategic Alliance with GDH for More Effective Delivery of Titles to North America.'

What does that mean to you as an anime consumer?

Beginning Friday, March 20 (Today), the action fantasy anime series "The Tower of Druaga" and the action horror series "Blassreiter" will be streamed with English subs on FUNimation.com/video and available for download-to-own at $1.99 / episodes.

Check it out and tell us what you think.  This again peaks my curiosity - if you guys watch these shows via streaming, how likely are you to buy the DVDs when they come out?

In related new, Gia over at AnimeVice.com just posted about figures of  'Tower of Druaga's resident cat ear-wearing warrior, Fatina.'  I should pick me up a couple of those.

I can only hope this means we'll get dvd releases on titles FUNimation normally wouldn't license (e.g. Strike Witches, Rosario to Vampire, Bokurano, etc.)

I love Funi Dubs, the voice actors you guys get are great. I buy the DVD for the higher res video quailty and for the Dubs. I'm not the biggest fan of reading a show or japanese voices tho. No offense, just not a fan of English Subs. FUNI DUBS ALL THE WAY!... Oh and if I like a series I've seen online, then I'll buy the box set when It's released....the only exception is for Soul Eater, I'm buying that as it comes out...HAHAHA! Can't wait for Soul Eater. You ROck FUNI!

I never buy an anime without having watched it first, and of course then I only buy what I like. Whether I saw the show first on tv, streaming online, rented it, or borrowed it... in the end if I liked it I'll want to own it. But I'm the patient shopper. I rarely buy DVD's as soon as it streets. I usually wait for a collection, or a really good sale.

If I watch a show streamed, I'm not likely to buy the single DVD releases and will wait for a season set.

HOWEVER, if I watch a show streamed and then blu-ray release comes out (again, preferable season set -- but singles would tempt a little), I'll pick that up immediately to re-watch the series w/ spectacular audio/video.

I don't quite get it because Druaga and Blassreiter have already been available for download, 1.99 per episode, at BOST and CrunchyRoll for a really long time already.

I'm totally willing to buy DVD's for a show I've already streamed/pay-downloaded though. Especially Strike Witches, you guys need to put out R1 DVD's for that show.

Forming an alliance with Gonzo is a GREAT idea! I think it's really cool how FUNimation has been streaming a bunch of episodes. I was convinced to buy both sets of Ouran High School Host Club on dvd because I could see it online. It's like a preview. If I lose interest in a show within the first couple of episodes, then I stop watching. But that hasn't happened very often. My main point is that if I watch a streamed series all the way through, then I intend to purchase it on dvd as soon as it becomes available. I partly like purchasing my anime on dvd because there's something wonderful about watching a show you like without having to adjust your mouse to keep your computer from falling asleep. How to put it: for me, having anime on dvd is fun! This opinion does not change for shows that I've viewed on FUNimation's website.

Though it may be hard to believe, there are still people out here on dial-up and being one of them naturally I won't be streaming! However, even if I had access to fast Internet, I still wouldn't be because I buy all my anime dvds. And I buy my dvds because I want to watch all my anime with English dubbing.

This is brilliant news!!
Especially if this means that ALL GONZO past, present and future ANIME's will be released on DVD and Dubbed? at some time in the near future?
I only ever buy Offical DVD's, but use your Site or You Tube to sample 1st Eps. etc, to see if i fancy them or not. Then if i do they go into my "List to Buy" Book to purchase at a later date.
So thanks FUNimation, Your the Best!!
Hope this will be done with other Studio's Shows.

When you guys see Seto I am sure you will buy it. Hey Why doesn't FUNimation just do a complete buy out of ADV they have alot of anime people like (Clannad, Chrono Crusade Fullmetal Panic) and there on the brink of death anyway so why not? They are making bad decisions just take them over......

Since I'm interested by what I've heard about Seto No Hanayome, I'll buy that one day.

Also, I may get Tower of Druaga, if only to see both versions of the first episode.

I applaud you for allying yousrselves with GDH. I hope that you guys will get Bokurano soon.

Oh, and, please license-rescue Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo and license Re: Cutie Honey. You've already given a C & D for the latter and need to do a DVD release of the former that manages to trump the (aborted) release that was done by Illumitoon.
