So I have this Box Set on pre-order and i just wanted to start up a discussion on this particular show. This is a blind buy for me. I have no idea what this show is like. I will likely watch an episode on the FUNi youtube channel to get me in the mood of watching it before I get it. Anyway, what are your thoughts on this show? Have you seen it before? Do you like it? etc etc..... and.... GO!

RideBack General Discussion

This series is a good little series. I really liked watching the subtitled version.

I have now watched 2 episodes on FUNI's YouTube channel. Its pretty good so far! Although not much has happened yet. I do hope it gets better. I know it will though!
I think the last two episodes are the two best of the series.

Thanks, ill keep that in mind!
A young woman uses her ex-ballerina dancing skills to ride mechanized bipedal motorcycles.
Rideback has a rare balance of action and drama that manages to be complimentary rather than try to drown each other out. The story is well-paced and tightly plotted. The animation is crisp and vivid with impressive sprawling urban backdrops. Even the CG is fluid and unobtrusive. The dual themes of ballet and military fallout make for an interesting soundtrack with everything from soft, mellow instrumentals to loud and fast rock numbers. Rideback seamlessly combines ostensibly unrelated themes and paints a beautiful and intriguing world as a literal stage for it's strong and charming female lead.
There's a lot of symbolism and metaphor in this show. It's intelligent and subtle rather than blatantly beating you over the head. There's a lot of good action sequences, but there's a lot of character development and world-building as well. If you're expecting Code Geass or Eureka 7 with motorcycles, you might find it boring.
Also, the OP is by one of my favorite Japanese artists, MELL.
Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you.

Over all I thought the show was pretty good....and I have VERY high standards when it comes to anime. It was balanced well enough as far as concept, story, plot, character development and animation style(s). You actually felt for the characters and could easily relate to the social situations and issues that were touched on with this series.
However.....
I honestly wished that the creators and producers would have done more to develop the story and add more to the overall theme before going strait for the "end-game" situation in the later episodes.
I feel that the series would've benefited from an additional 4 or 5 episodes to create more of a build-up of tension leading up to the main event and give more to the daily lives of the main characters and the drama there-in.
The writers and producers did a great job going from points A to B to C, D, E, F, and G....but then skipped ahead to M, N, O, P, Q and then went strait to W, X, Y and Z.
The entire series gets an A+ from beginning to end but it would've gotten bonus points for delving more into having Rin trying to balance out her life with going to school while still making time for the Rideback Club, trying to make a name for herself as a professional Rideback racer (or at the least have her participate in more than just one race) and the family drama involving her brother.....THEN go into the political BS and rhetoric leading up to the last few episodes. As it stands, everything just went by too quickly for my tastes.
But all-in-all it's still a GREAT series....worth every penny if you plan to buy it.

I wish there was more to it. I only got to see half of the series before it got licensed. I loved what I saw... it's just the way it was in so much of a hurry to finish itself that bothered me. I hate series' that do that... either intentionally or unintentionally, it's still annoying. Sacred Seven did that same thing and I ended up hating it for it. Hopefully I won't feel that way for this show, but I just feel that rushed shows just leave a bad taste in my mouth sometimes.
I did like those ... I also liked the first three. The middle was kinda heavy and at times long.
But overall I liked it
