In Ouran High School Host Club, Why did Hikaru and Kaoru's mother dress them up as little girls for that party in the episode about their thief nanny?

Ya know, I don't think they ever went over that. Maybe she just thought they were cuter that way? A designer would have more to work with in little girls and it not like logic plays a huge role in Ouran, ha-ha. They were too cute though.
For that matter, why does Italy (Hetalia / Chibitalia) wear a dress? They even mention it when Holy Roman Empire gets flustered about leaving and his soldiers ask him if the painting he has is of his "little girlfriend or boyfriend or gender neutral chibi thing".
I believe that in a few of Ghibli's films, little boys wear dress-like things.
I dunno. But it seems like it's not the first time I've seen little boys wear dresses in an anime.

I think it also has to do with androgyny being more popular in Japan than it is in the US. A pretty face is pretty regardless of gender so if the twins looked cute in dresses, why not put them in dresses?
I think it's just because their mother thought they looked cute. I've heard of the (rare) mom over here doing the same thing.
Personally I think they would've been far cuter in little suits, but to each their own.

In the manga they say that at the time their mom was really into designing children's clothes for both boys AND girls so they conveniently became her models

There mom is a fashion designer i think and wanted to model the look on kids, even if they were boys. I was confused a little bit to, but they did look so adorable!
