Re: One Piece Simulcast Discussion

A pretty slow episode, perhaps taking too long with the chatter and banter between the Straw Hats and company considering that we had 100,000 armed henchmen who should have had more aggressive responses to an invasion even if many of them were slaves and the others were subordinates. Perhaps, a few words showing panic from those outside of the Zeo group would have helped or me being more skeptical nowadays was the problem... >_>

Knocking out the 50,000 in one go was pretty awesome as it was in the manga, enjoyed Hody's confident smirk disappear...

However when are we going to see shock faces like these again?

Yes, this is a serious arc, serious elements, serious villain (well not Caribou and Vanderdecken but they aren't running the show)... If I unfairly discount Perona for not being the big big bad though she was a pillar at Thriller Bark, we haven't seen a face like God Enel's since well the 150s.

Re: One Piece Simulcast Discussion

@thelastgogeta as I'm too lazy and don't see a point in quoting as it just messes it up.

I do agree, I'd like to see faces again like Enel, but didn't we see a similar one a while back, back on schabondy when Luffy took out one of the pacifista's in one hit and the pirates surrounding them did that face? Or is that different? They seem'd the same to me.

I do think the reactions and pacing could of been better, but I'm glad TOEI isn't trying to pull off a Bleach or Naruto in terms of needing to go into fillers and such and disrupt the actual arc.

Filler is far better than the abysmal pacing One Piece currently has. Right now it takes the better part of a month to get the amount of content that should be in a single episode.

@CJVX

I was counting named characters, particularly ones who are the big bad or pretty high up. Facefaults from numerous no-names isn't as impressive as a whole page spread (or the animation we saw in the anime) for Enel.

Normally I wouldn't agree but the last episode was so poorly animated and slowly paced (so even if it did cover more than half of Chapter 635, it would have just ruined Franky's debuting weapons and such), perhaps a good filler arc to get all of the lazy work out of the canon wouldn't be bad.

Lately every episode has been more slowly paced than the last.

Toei really need to take a leaf out of Fairy Tail's book

I dropped fairy tail a while ago (and the anime even longer) so what have they been doing to warrent taking a leaf from?

As for the recent episode, it was definetly better than last weeks, where it was slow and poorly animated (which is a damn shame considering Zoro and Sanji were showing off their new abilities there) but here it dosn't look as bad (though Jimbe was sort of off model) and honestly I laughed a few times through out the episode.

557 postponed until next week.

With almost no content and sloppy animation I don't see how Toei has an excuse for this.

Excellent pacing and well-written filler. Why on earth would you drop Fairy Tail?

Re: One Piece Simulcast Discussion

Last couple of episodes have been slow as usual, but at least we got to see some stuff.

Franky's mecha is awesome, as are chopper's improved forms and Luffy's armament hardening that has made its appearance again.

Also I think this is the first time Luffy has made a major antagonist appear positively weak without some sort of power up, which is unfamiliar but it seems to work

559 was a little better.

The stakes were but up a little bit, and the movement-heavy scenes improved a bit. Plus the episode was left on a proper cliffhanger instead of just ending abruptly. The only real downside was the heavy dialogue.

I'm glad Vander Decken is finished, quite frankly the voice actor was the only thing about that character that didn't piss me off.

I'm wondering when we're gonna see the real fighting though.

Re: One Piece Simulcast Discussion

It seems that Toei finally stepped up their animation quality for tonights episode. I don't know about you fella's but the animation quality for the last couple of episodes has just been really sloppy, choppy, and honestly not that good. Tonights was really entertaining though, and I really enjoyed the quality throughout. Here's hoping the future episodes are more like this one.

You know what I miss in the One Piece anime? I miss the showing of blood. Granted, I don't want it to be excessive to the point of being silly (I'm looking at you, Bleach), but it really takes me out of my viewing experience when someone gets stabbed through the stomach with a trident then chopped with a flying axe, with not a single drop of red liquid in sight. This was from last weeks episode, just so you know.

I watched the groggy ring from the Davy Beck fight when I got my Season 4 Voyage 1, and it made me realize why I enjoyed watching One Piece if the first place: The battles felt dangerous and lively. When some gets hurt in those fights, you can see the damage. Noses are bleeding, there is blood on their faces, and Zoro and Sanji actually look like they've gone through hell and they look like they are actually in pain.

Compare this to Hody stabbing Decken and there being literally nothing to show for it is a step backward, in my opinion.
