Re: One Piece Funimation DVD thread

The disclamer doesn't explain why opening 5 wasn't dubbed if there was only licensing problems with the ending.

My guess, they don't want to spend more money on dubbing every song anymore and seeing how they treated the Dragon Ball Z Kai dub which DID air on TV (not all insert songs are dubbed, it's opening for Parts 7 & 8 was a mix of previous performances which even people on YouTube did a much better job at), it shouldn't surprise anyone if it also happened here too so i guess we'll have to wait until Third Voyage is out to see if it's true.

Likely because they didn't have Eternal Pose's dub ready since the planned use of it on a DVD would be Third Voyage so they were months away from the dubbing of that song. As a result they may have decided to hold back on Opening 5's dub even if it was ready so that we wouldn't have one song dubbed at the beginning of the episode and one song in Japanese.

Notice how they say the episodes affected with the no dubbed songs policy is 207-230, while 231 is where Eternal Pose is meant to start being used as the proper ending, and Map of the Heart is used for the entire season. This likey means that by the time we get to Episode 231 both Map of the Heart and Eternal Pose will be in English. Otherwise the policy would've gone up to 263.

Nope, they state they do want to continue dubbing the songs like in previous releases it's just that the licensing issues prevented Future Voyage from being on the set and pretty much threw everything off. I hope Tackey & Tsubasa isn't taking issue with FUNi or trying to charge them a ridiculous amount of money. If so, expect to see Season 5's Crazy Rainbow Star opening skipped over as well.

I guess what Maron thought out makes sense now that I think about it a little more. Thanks for the help Maron, I was ready to get mad at FUNimation for that but now I feel better.

BTW, for all of you who have already received the box set early, I want to know if it's just like the old voyages' packaging or is it in a generic case like the collections.

Well that sucks hmm

I wish the excuse was just a little more specific than just 'licensing issues'

Also for this to pop up now is very odd, when Funi have had ages to sort through this problem

How is it an excuse if it's something they're not being allowed to go through with? That's like a teacher telling a student that they're making an excuse when the teacher never gave him the assignment in the first place.

I think you're being a bit unreasonable and assuming too much. With us actually having the complete omission of an ending I seriously doubt this was something that could've easily been resolved with FUNi continually pushing Avex/Tackey& Tsubasa/whoever. It's very fair to assume this was something they wouldn't budge on, which unfortunately is sometimes how these sorta things with licensors work out. Sometimes they're not as interested in making the dub complete as we are, they just have dollar signs in their eyes and are thinking more about how to profit as much as possible.

No problem. I got my set yesterday, packaging is the exact same as previous releases. The thin cases are the exact same as Season 3's, only it says "One Piece" instead of "Luffy's Pirates". All the menu music is new and really upbeat selections from the OP score, very fitting for this opening arc.

The logo animation in Map of the Heart leaves the blue logo in but then flashes to the FUNi one at the point in the original where the Luffy silhouette flashed. There's a black fill inside the gold logo though.

Re: One Piece Funimation DVD thread

Say, hopefully Funimation is reading this, because I think I have an idea to sort this problem.

First of all, here is the Japanese opening for Drabonball Z:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHnfX1RmZX8

And here is the Philippines opening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7qMMWCsbmE

Noticed anything different? The instrumentals sounded different. This isn't the first time, it was actually done many times before.

Here is another example. This is the catala version of ending 14: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=wVD_VTYsl78#!

Original ending 14: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=yRJndbrn13A#!

Again, the instrumentals sounded different. You think this is something Funimation could do to dub the openings and endings? I believe they also did it for Case Closed as well.
