Re: The NFL 2012 Season Discussion Thread

Halfway through the season, and we have a much better idea of what these teams are like. I think it'll be the Steelers beating the Bears in the Super Bowl this year.

Ugh, I'm praying the Steelers or the Patriots do NOT make it in the Super Bowl this year, I'm getting sick of them constantly representing the AFC in that game, I would like for a different team to break out and make an impact, hell I'll even accept the Ravens if it means a change of pace. The Ravens are more often than not efficient.

I'm so freakin' giddy right now, the Bengals are handing the Giants their @$$es! I pegged this game to be the upset pick of the week favoring the Bengals but I did NOT expect this beatdown, Eli is so off his game today it's hilarious.

Hmm. Some upsets this week. I'm sad too, I've lobbied for Tennessee and Cincy all year. Now I finally give up on them, and each blows out their opponent in a game they weren't expected to be in. Augh! On the plus side, the Browns didn't lose this week. They didn't play, you're right, but they didn't lose either.

Pretty excited for the game tonight...All around a weird week so far. I'm beginning to like Seattle and Denver each making a conference championship game. Maybe against Houston and San Francisco.

Jets need a new GM. Plain and simple.

The Jets are pretty much one loss away from declaring their season dead, it's almost at that point, they might as well be in the NFC East.

The Bengals beating the Giants made me happy though. It was such a beautiful disaster for Big Blue.

The Saints put in an AWESOME effort finally crushing the "perfect" season of the Falcons. They have been hot but the Saints always seem to have their number. Good job by Drew Brees and company.

Re: The NFL 2012 Season Discussion Thread

Okay, now that I've had time to mull this loss over some more, here's my rant.

Fireman Ed left the game at halftime. We are talking about one of the NFL's most prominent fans here, who left at halftime, and then later deactivated his own Twitter account.

The coach - while I respect him from a defensive standpoint - has no clue how to handle adversity. It's not easy when things go bad for any team, but he loses touch with the whole locker room. Why don't we hear about the Jaguars or Chiefs getting all riled? As bad as things might seem down there, they stick together as a team. Good coaching helps.

The GM doesn't know how to build a football team for the long run. Those two AFC Championship appearances in a row are just another example of the "win now, lose later" attitude of this entire franchise, not to mention their history of bad drafts. Their offensive line is getting worse, Sanchez has almost nobody to throw the ball to when he's not fumbling it, and Shonn Greene looks like a snail sometimes. The defense can't get a pass rush. Then there's the Tim Tebow-Tony Sparano "Wildcat" project. I don't think I need to talk about how big a failure that has been.

The quarterback doesn't know how to protect the football. Nor does he know how to take the blame. He is easily rattled, easily fooled by the defense, and clumsy with the football. I don't think I've ever seen a quarterback run into his own offensive lineman's butt and lose the football. I don't think we'll ever see it again, either. His completion percentage makes all of those aforementioned flaws look like nitpicks. Really, he's in his fourth year and he still can't keep his completion percentage OVER 55%?

The owner claims he has nothing to do with Tim Tebow. He claims it wasn't to sell PSL's, or make more money by bringing in the most polarizing player in the league. He claims he doesn't to make headlines, or "steal" the attention away from the defending champion Giants. I don't buy any of it. You want to know what I really believe? That he really does run a circus. By definition, a circus is a group of travelers that put on a show for people to laugh at. Last night on primetime, national television, and on Thanksgiving night, the Jets put on the most entertaining circus act that anybody could ask for. Anybody that's not a Jets fan, of course.

I'm going to be very honest, I had quit on the Jets even before this debacle. Something happened during the bye week; I realized that I wouldn't even like this team anymore, no matter how much I rooted for them. When I made the joke of "dropping the Jets if they were an anime," not too long ago in this thread, I didn't realize I was actually going to live up to it. I really have dropped them. Not for the season...for good.

It's not the losing record. It's not the lack of a Super Bowl in over 40 years. It's how the entire Jets organization is run. It's a joke. It's a circus. It's no longer the team I'm rooting for, and Rex Ryan, Mike Tannenbaum, Mark Sanchez, and Woody Johnson are the main culprits.

I've picked a new team already. It might seem like a completely random decision, but it's a team I always had a fondness for back in their AFC days:

Re: The NFL 2012 Season Discussion Thread

I'm getting a sense of deja vu seeing all of this unfold. Yea, I didn't even bother to watch the game. I knew it was going to be a disaster long before the stage was set. Tom Brady is having one of those days and when he does, no team is safe.

I digress, the deja vu feeling. This is almost exactly how Eric Mangini's tenure in the Jets went down. The Jets had a LOT of promise in his first year, was so-so the next and the season after that just flat out collapsed. Ryan has a better track record than Mangini but Ryan's collapse is unfolding just like Mangini's not to mention the Giants were the defending champions during the times of their collapse.

I'm pretty certain the lackluster performance of the Jets this season is going to get Rex Ryan fired, but in his defense, it's not ALL his fault. Sanchez is not the answer, the defense leaves a LOT to be desired and even though Revis and Holmes are done for the season, there's gotta be some hungry players stepping up and filling in their shoes but the intensity is just not there.

It's also pissing me off that they're just bringing Tebow in as a replacement Tight End or Full Back instead of just letting him be a QB. I hate the Jets for bringing him in only to rarely use him, they should've just let him go to Jacksonville where he would've been appreciated more. Even with Sanchez screwing around Rex Ryan STILL has him start each game, it doesn't make any sense!

@7jaws7: I couldn't help but to chuckle about Fireman Ed up and leaving then shutting down his twitter. I don't think being late for his thanksgiving dinner would be a good excuse for bailing on his team but I can't say I blame him. I don't think the most loyal fans of losing franchises would jump ship like that. Goes to show how much of a downer it has been watching the Jets.
