Rumor Mill: Disney Eyeing A Hasbro Buy-Out!?

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/JakeLester/news/?a=69682

It's just a rumor ATM, and hopefully it will be debunked soon I can't imagine Disney Spending billions more to buy out another company in the same year (after all there was a 2 year reprieve between their buy out of Marvel (2010) and LucasFilm (2012). So yeah.

Honestly I think the rumor stems from the Fact Hasbro owns toy rights to Marvel properties & Star Wars .

However considering Disney works with Mattel more then Hasbro on Toys, and Mattel gets a decent chunk of its profits from its Mickey & Disney Princess lines, It would not be a good thing for them. *Only Disney Toys Hasbro Does are Toy Story & the occasional Board Game*

Plus Hasbro already has locked in agreements with companies like Studio-B/DHXMedia IDW, Shout Factory & Paramount for various forms of entertainment media. On top of the fact that they just launched the HUB network in 2010...

So yeah its probably nothing, but just in case I gotta say to Disney...

STAY THE BUCK AWAY FROM MY PONIES & BOTS YEA MONOPOLIZING SON'S A [YAY!]

So yeah Discuss, Panic, rage, joy, etc until Hasbro or Disney one Debunk or Prove.

Meanwhile I'll be praying to the Goddesses Celestia & Luna this forever states nothing but a Nasty Rumor.

It better just be a rumor. Disney doesn't need to have their hands in everything.

Agreed, and can you imagine what would happen to MLP if Disney got their hands on it!? It would turn back into THIS

Not to mention G.I. Joe fans would have even less of a chance then they do now of having a serious well done version of the franchise come out (seriously those guys are ignored so much I feel sorry for em and Disney would most likely only make that worse)

On the bright side we could get someone better then Micheal Bay to direct future Transformers movies.

But yeah the cons heavily outweigh the pro's for pretty much ALL Fan-bases and companies currently involved with Hasbro (G.I.Joe, Littlest Pet Shop, My Little Pony, Transformers, etc)

So let us all hope and pray this NASTY RUMOR gets debunked soon.

Also I now know how Star Wars fans felt last week, even if this turns out to be false, it still hurts my inner fanboy something fierce!

It wouldn't surprise me in the least whether its rumor or truth - for all we know the two companies maybe talking to each other about a future buyout to take place X amount of years from now.

On the bright side of a Disney buyout, provided MLPFIM remains as is, Eeyore could have a cameo, but then, Mickey would have to come along and upstage him and all the ponies. Also, if it remains as is, an animated movie (done well) wouldn't be bad.

Also, some new life on the Transformers movies wouldn't be bad - provided it remains gritty and action packed.

My theory about this is that Hasbro do the Star Wars toys, so it's inevitable Disney and Hasbro have to deal with each other one way or another.

I really don't know what to make of this (if its true) just wait and see what they do with Star Wars I guess, but on the other hand enough is enough, call me paranoid, but to have a monopoly occur or even an impending oligopoly, which is very close, it doesn't seem right to have one company, or even two or three control all entertainment media - or a vast share of it.

I'm also on my coffee break at work and typing on my iPhone - so I had to be more to the point on this post.

Re: Rumor Mill: Disney Eyeing A Hasbro Buy-Out!?

@Neon: iPhone eh.

Also, honestly i'm hoping its just something like Hasbro talking to Disney to secure/renew their rights to the Star Wars Figures, I mean yeah Disney Could buy Hasbro, but why pay the 5.2 billion dollars (the estimated worth of Hasbro ATM) for a Toy company when you just bought a Movie studio. Honestly I hope Hasbro gives fans some word soon.

And yeah I agree good could come out of it, but IMO the bad still outweighs the good. But yeah i'm sure i'll feel silly in a week or so when it was just Hasbro talking over keeping Star-Wars Toy rights and maybe renewing their Marvel toy Rights.

I mean Admitingly Hasbro is a hot little piece right now, up from 12 to 7 in top 100 merchandising companies, one of Fortune Magazines "Top 100 companies to work for" for 2012. And one of the top partners of DHX Media, IDW Publishing & Shout Factory ATM. So yeah, I can see why a bigger company would want them, but overall I don't think it would work out so well as currently the two are competitors in both the Cinema & Television Industry. And as I mentioned Disney license more of its Toy properties to Mattel over Hasbro, has for decades. I guess what i'm saying is it would just be too much of a shake-up on Too many levels, Marvel worked because they were fairly independent, LucasWorks because its also a movie studio, but Hasbro has its hands dipped in so many different things and so many different companies ATM it would be chaos, not to mention Hasbro has its own subsidiaries to worry about, and Disney is known for some pretty Draconian tactics at times which would not suite Hasbro's more lax "were all one big family" feel Hasbro has tried to build with the HUB and the various fan bases over the years/decades.

But yeah guess we will have to just wait & see.

What's up with all the references to "Disneyfication?"

Doesn't seem to me like they really go to that extent. Just look at Marvel.

I don't think anybody has to worry right now; if it is true that Disney is looking at Hasbro, it will be around 2 - 3 years before it is possible considering they have just purchased Lucasfilm.

I think, if any talks between Disney and Hasbro are happening it may be so that they may buy the toy rights from them - although very unlikely considering Disney own Marvel and many of their action figures are still manufactured and distributed through Hasbro. Perhaps there is the question of Hasbro allowing Disney to sell their figures in Disney outlet stores and theme park stores - they have to get permission for that.

But in this day and age, anything is possible, who knows, although it looks doubtful, I was surprised when Disney bought Marvel - which pretty much stayed the same more or less, then Lucasfilm - which might be a good thing, or maybe not, we'll have to see.

So, if after 2 or 3 years Disney annouces they own Hasbro, I would shrug it off for the most part, but I would also rant about why Disney can't seem to stop buying everything. As I mentioned, it's not a safe thing when one company owns everything in a given industry - especially if it's the entertainment industry.

@Ninja: I think most are worried that Disney would be more hands on with Hasbro since both companies prime demographics are children/family.

@Neon: Your right, theres no need to panic/rant right now, we should wait 2-3 year till something actually happens, if it does happen.

Although honestly I do think there would be some legal issues with the buyout, not a huge guy on the whole politics of business but I believe the Antitrust act would keep the two from combining, since part of the trust act is regulating competition in industries. But yeah, we shall just have to wait & see.

On the bright side though, if it does ever happen, I can look forward to going to the Ponyville &/or Cybertron areas of Disneyworld someday XD.

Update: Article from MSN money starting why the buy out is most likely false.

http://money.msn.com/top-stocks/post.aspx?post=6dd4cbb8-d936-444a-8f2b-6869a1e26688

Again if anything Hasbro's talks with Disney are most likely over retaining the rights to make Star Wars toys.

Re: Rumor Mill: Disney Eyeing A Hasbro Buy-Out!?

Sorry for the Triple Post, but Rumor Debunked by Hasbro themselves, people have been sending in E-mails or going to live chats with Hasbro reps have all gotten responses like THIS

"It's great to hear of your interest in regarding that status of Disney and Hasbro but at this time, Disney will not be purchasing or acquiring Hasbro. "

So yeah Rumor is nothing more, hopefully the arsehat at MTV Geek that started it will get fired, and beaten with in an inch of his life by a rabbid gaggle of Bronies, Joes, Petters, & TF Fans XD.

That's a little excessive don't you think?

Maybe a week suspension without pay and a YouTube video apology would suffice - beating people mercilessly would be an expression of very unbronylike behavior.
