Re: Question of the Day!

Well first off I went ahead and stickied this for you and I hope it is as popular as it was on the old board.

For me Anime is a medium that really allows the writers to "go there" and thankfully they often do. The stories can be as simple as which girl gets the guy to figuring out a complex murder mystery where the poor hero is stuck figureing out how it happened without Magic being involved. The other thing about anime is the characters for the most part feel real. I mean come on perfect movie stars just arent relatable as characters for me at least.

I definetly like anime for the stories, I can count the number of american shows with an actual plot on just my hand (even some of those like Samurai Jack are highly episodic) while most anime I watch (shonen mainly) have coherent plots. Animation is also a big draw for me, it just generally looks more serious than anything else I watch.

Re: Question of the Day!

Well, I really enjoy anime as just another medium of entertainment. However, if I had to say how I enjoy it more than others, I would say that it is because the vast majority of anime I watch have a continuous plot. Something in which most western cartoons completely lack.

I like how serious and/or emotional anime can be. There are cartoons that get quite serious and/or emotional at times (Futurama being the one that pops to my mind most immediately) but anime and manga can also dedicate entire series to really serious matters and that's nice to see.

On the flip side to the last point, I love how crazy anime can get. I can't speak for Japan's culture, but it seems that their standards are somewhat different because they let a lot get through in their children's cartoons/comic books. Stuff that you don't see so much in western animation.

Re: Question of the Day!

I love the stories of anime myself. Many times I find myself relateing to a character or characters within the story. The artwork is another thiing. Some of it is just very bright and colorfull while otehrs are a bit more dull, kinda blockish. Rangeing art style helps to keep me interested in them. And personaly I find anime to be far more interesting thanmost of the cartoons and "Reality" tv that is currently airing. But that just me.

Re: Question of the Day!

>.< Buah, it's always so hard for me to pinpoint why exactly I like anime. I think about it really hard and tend to ramble, but maybe this time I'll be able to keep my thoughts on track.

I think one of the main reasons I watch anime is because I like cartoons and I like ridiculous, full-of-action, fantastical/ supernatural plots. You really can't find that when you watch American cartoons anymore. I love how anime will take characters out of an average-ordinary situation and throw them into wacky situations. Although, I really don't care for TMoHS (yeah I'm so cool I abbrev.), I loved the concept of it being a pretty run-of-the-mill show and... BAM it's up in your face interesting.

Another thing you can't really find in shows anymore is the "million-stories-turns-into-one". I'm not saying ALL anime has this idea, but shows like Durarara and Baccano (both of which are anime) make my head explode (in a good way).

I guess the bottom-line is that I like a well thought out, supernatural/fantastical show and you can't really find any (that are well done and not on SyFy or the CW) like that anymore.

Re: Question of the Day!

Why do i like anime huh? Well thats a good question, and i have a simple answer... Its everything about it, Story, Art, Action Sequences if any, and just anime all around, There is not an aspect of anime I just sit there and bash at, I take if for the whole. It has this thing about it, that makes it different from regular cartoons and animated movies or series that actually try to tell a story, There is something that stands out in anime i cant describe. its just the Anime Style.

Re: Question of the Day!

I like anime because of everything it has to offer! From romance to action, and ecchi to comedy. I love it all. I don't know what life would be like without anime. I love the story, art, music, voice acting. And there are so many options to anime too, if I was feeling action then there are tons of action, if I want romance then there are 100 of options for that. I am never bored when I am watching anime, it always keeps me on the end of my seat. It's also a great motion changer. If I am angry and want to feel happy then there is anime for that. All I can say is anime is awesome!!!

Re: Question of the Day!

Story definitely has a lasting effect on me, but it's also the characters. Indeed, there are just some you find in anime that you'd never see in any other genre. Other than that, anime is just simply entertaining. And it leads to a lot of awesome things, such as meeting new people at anime conventions and sharing interests...the list goes on.

Re: Question of the Day!

I like animes because there is rarely a let down when it comes to story or special effects. It really pisses me off when I'm watching a live action film/series and the special effects are cheesey, lame, poorly done, or all of thee above. The stories in most animes are well thought out and the character you can at least relate to on one level. They seem to suck you into their world. The longer the series the deeper you go. No matter the details of that world, they are always acceptable. Yes I will agree that some are cut short and that the stories sometimes suffer but you can always read the manga. That is if there is one of course. I don't know how to put it other than I love animes. Drama, action, comedy, or romance I dig them all. I really don't know how I would entertain myself if there where no animes.

Re: Question of the Day!

alright question 2:
I'd say I'm a 6 or a 7. I own some one piece merchandise (keychain and flag) but that's it. I've nevery really cosplayed and given the fans I've seen at cons my fandom is pretty modest in comparison.
