I just started watching a few eps of this show, and it's pretty cute and fun to watch. I am curious about a few things however. These things would probably be answered if I watched the whole show, but I'd like to know now and I wouldn't want to take time to watch the whole thing right now.
Why exactly is Twilight Princess Celestia's apprentice anyway? Is her backstory explained eventually, or is that still unknown?
Will we be seeing any human characters in the show? To my knowledge, some of the other MLP cartoons had human characters, so why not this one?
@Zerk: Twilights apprintanceship to celestia is explained in the episode Cutie Mark Chronicles. Celestia saw that Twilight had very powerful magic inside of her, but she needed someone to teach her to control & focus it, thus she took twilight under her wing if you will, lol as her student.
Also, NO there will NEVER be any humans in the MLP cartoon (thank God), why....because this is an actually good incarnation of the franchise mad to be a legitimatly good cartoon, not just to sale toys to little kids like the past versions were.
Well I've finally gotten into the show and have had time to post here (school can do that). Pretty fun seeing the season premier (I liked it more than the series premier).
Although I think my favorite parts of the show are the ones with the Cutie Mark Crusaders, I just like overarching plots.
Why of course John DeLancie was born to paly Omnipitent trolls! Anyhwo, I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE PREMIRE! Discord is my kinda villian, an Omnipitent troll with a sick sense of humor, guys basically the Equestrian version of Loki mixed with abit of the Joker. Also I loved the refernces in this episode, the whole maze thing, totally Greco-Roman Menatours maze, then Applejacks scene with the 3 "keepers of the grove" total McBeth referance.
I also loved Discord's tactics, praying on the ponies weaknesses to make them the inverse of their element, then how he got so frustrated when he could'nt turn Fluttershy with words & illusions, and had to basically do a good ol fashioned mind-hack instead. Also love how he intentionally lead Twilight to all of her friends after they had been altered, he didn't need to use his tricks on her, by taking her horn & messing with her friends he takes away what ever chance she had to use the magic of friendship.
seriously this guy, I love how much of a badarse he is, the sad thing is we all know a big deus ex machina will come so the ponies can win. However from what I've heard at other MLP sites, Discord may be a reoccuring villian, I hope its true, would love to see him pop up every now & then and mess with the mane 6 somemore, lol.
Seriously Discords probably the best villian i've seen in a U.S. toon in well, probably a decade or so.
@SM: I agree that Discord makes a great villain, though I think he might be the creator's joke on trolls of the series. His voice is perfect.
As for best villain in the past decade well I can at least say there's some contest between him, Ozai, and new Mum-Ra
The premiere of the second season was everything I hoped it would be. When I found put Lauren Faust was not going to be as big a part of the series in this season I really worried that the quality would suffer but they have managed to keep it as amazing as it has always been. I especially love the call-back to the magical girl premise for the series .. I was rally starting to wonder what happened to the Elements of Harmony.
Any word on this one coming to DVD? It seems be getting a lot of positive vibes and I'd like to see it for myself but I don't have cable or sat where I am. Just DVD, Blu-Ray and streaming. (So really I don't need to pay for all those channels I never watch but still.)
