Re: My Little Pony : Friendship is Magic

Sorry for the double post, but the HUB posted this on their Twitter Page

This makes me happy, still kind of trollish, but my guess is by soon they probably mean Somewhere between the 1st-15th of September, any later and thats not really "Soon" least not in my book. But yeah, hopefully this means we'll start actually getting some preview commercials for season 3 of MLP, like we have recently for the new Episodes of TF: Prime which premiere later this month. But yeah, dang it HUB, stop stringin me along, you already own my DVR, Television, and my heart, what more do you want!!?

Update: More Fun News! Seems Weird Al is aware of us Bronies/Pegasisters and says he'd like to make a cameo in the show someday. Considering his guest-role as Wreck-Gar in TF:Animated, I believe that this could work quite well if he were ever given a cameo. Infact Al, Andrew W.K & Pinkie Pie could probably raise a lot of cain if given the chance, lol.

And you know I too enjoy re-watching the more Spike-centric episodes, I mean on top of being the only male lead, he's a pretty interesting guy, and his episodes usually do a good job of developing his bonds with those closest to him like Twilight (who is arguably the equivalent of Spike's Step-Sister) and of course his crush Rarity. I think the only bad thing about the spike-centric episodes are that they also bring-up up many questions, I mean is Greed the only way dragons can grow, or is their another emotion/urge/whatever that could possibly help them grow into a more noble form? It seems all the other dragons in Equestria have wings, yet Spike Does not, I know some fans attribute it to his small size, and say,o h he'll grow some when he's bigger, but as seen in secret of my excess, that doesn't happen. And baby Pegasus are born with wings, I think it would be the same for dragons. Personally My theory on Spike is that he's the dragon equivalent to an Earth pony (still having some magic of course, as Dragons are pretty amazing creatures and what not, lol) I actually hope that in a future episode/season we find out exactly what tribe of Dragons Spike comes from, that would be nice

There are so many ways it can go, maybe dragons, when they just grow and mature naturally, develop their wings, only dragons live ridiculasly long lives, so it takes lifetimes before a dragon reaches maturity. Remember the epiode where Spike is hanging with all those other dragons - they didn't seem so materialistic, I didn't see any stashes, or any swag or treasure, just nothing.

So, maybe, if a dragon matures in an accelerated manner by indulging in a particular sin, say greed, maybe they lose out on certain attributes, however, maybe you're theory is correct, maybe he doesn't have wings, but instead he can dig, or, he's stronger and more powerful than a wing dragon - if you remember when he grew large, he seemed larger and more threatening than the other dragons in the series.

As for the episode where Spike is trying to fit in with the dragons, I found it more to be about peer pressure, not so much about masculinity - after all, would you equate masculinity to troublemaking, or being a bad person/creature? The vibe I got was the "cool" kids doing all this nasty stuff, and the other guy trying to get ino the club. With one of the courses we're doing a gender analysis unit, and we need to go into groups and write essays, I have interviewed a few guidance counselors and teachers, somewho have been at it for nearly 40 years, with schools about different grade levels and how the behavior of young boys and girls have changed over the years, shockingly, these days, girls are ingaging in this sort of behavior just as much if not more so than young boys, a new term for the modern age "alpha female" has come up in these discussions, so it's very interesting.

So this episode is perfect in terms of being aimed at "everybody" both male and femlae, young and old, even at this point in your life, I'm sure you see this sort of thing play out with people trying to prove themselves worthy to get into a club or an incrowd.

Oh oh, I don't want to rain on your parade, but that word you'e using, "trollish" or "trollin" that was used at the panel with Cathy Weseluck when everyone asked about the season 3 stuff, it is one of my pet peeve words now that is getting overused right up tere with misogynistic, awsomeness and epic - I have no problem with these words when applied in the appropriate situation. I mean let's face it, as an example, any activity you engage in as a young male seems outlawed under the misogyny code - did you know that some find it sexist for us guys to urinate standing up? So, as I said, certain words are getting overused when inapplicable thus causing some greif on my end. I bite my lip and roll my eyes everytime I see or hear these words now.

All you, and you too, this is not trolling, this is teasing, big difference, trolling is when an individual goes out of their way to be a jerk and pick a fight, be it online, or at a bar - yes, you could call those guys trolls, THEY be trollin, because they got hammered and now want to fight somebody. Or, that jerk that comes along and gives anybody that doesn't fit their mould a hard time. These are the trolls you're looking for. Oh, and with this post, I'm not trolling, I'm lecturing as a guy looking at the times shaking his head asking "what's going on?"

Teasing, well, I say this because it like those "teaser" trailers you see for movies - remember the Dark Knight Rises teaser? That built some excitment and anticipation, that's what these people promoting season 3 are trying to do, not trying to fight you.

Lastly, Weird Al would be a lot of fun if he was on there for an entire episode, he would even tire out Pinkie with his antics, and season 3 they say will premiere early September? Bud, that's practically tomorrow, we're already halfway through August, relax, be patient, the show's coming, and nobody be" trollin."

I got the second week booked off for September - oh, paid vacation time, such a wonderful thing.

Yeah, theres still a lot of mysteries around ol Spike, I Personally think if any part of my theores have any chance of being correct maybe his love for his friends will cause him to grow into a more noble form. Maybe something simmilar to a kririn. That way he wouldnt get to big and could stay with his pony friends. Yeah thats cheesy, but it could work.

I mean I guess I overthink things, but again, the lil guy is one of my favorite characters, and I want him to be happy, I know they could go the whole, if you love somehting you gotta learn to let it go, and in a later or final season have spike grow up and be forced to leave Twilight, Rarity & the others behind, but dag nab it, if I wanted melancholy or tears in a toon i'd watch a Don Bleuth flick. I mean yeah the show can do more series stories and have darker moments, and is far more then anyone expected of a "little girls show" But I still stay adamant in my belief that all of the overlapping story-arcs will be fulfilled in a positive way, I mean we know the CMC have to get their cutie marks at some point, and I would think Dash will eventually at least get offered a chance on the wonderbolts. And as for Spike & Rarity hooking up, maybe I would'nt be quite as hard-headed about it if things were diffrent, but as is seems like even the writers are rooting for the little guy, I mean they could have easily made it where Rarity explained to spike after their fall when he confessed (sort-of) that she didn't feel the same way, but she didn't she thanked him and gave him a kiss, then she's seen by him again in the cider season line, and of is very protective of him in Dragon Quest. And heck I could probably even overlook that as me just looking to much into things, if the MLP merch itself didn't ship em together as well!

Spoiler: Highlight to view

So yeah.... (lol who would have thought U.S. toons would make me more of a shipper then animu! tongue )

Oh And sorry for overuseing misusing the word troll. I blame the pony withdrawls, lol.

I can't wait for MLP to finally have full season dvd sets instead of the singles. Oh well, I just have to entertain myself with pmv, fanfics, art and collecting the trading cards. I have sooooo many Princess Luna cards but no Nightmare Moon! tear

I don't collect any cards for any series whatsoever, but, a while back I collected those Inuyasha cards - maybe this Nightmare Moon is a ultra, or, even worse, a hidden rare, and if that's the case, it's worth big bucks.

And yeah, Blu-ray/DVD boxsets would be the way to go.

There are so many way they could go with it, but what throws me off is how they say there isn't much informationabout dragons because they are too rare and too scary to get close, yet ironically, who was the brave soul that collected the egg that held Spike? One pony had to collect it at one time, it`s not like they are using magic to clone them and grow them out of nowhere, and even if that was the case, they`d need to collect genetic information from a host - see, this what happens when grown men watch this, I`m reading way to much into it and turning it into a scifi Jurassic Park Lord of the Rings sort of thing.

But in all fairness to fans, it would be really nice nice to see who Spike's parents were and how his egg ended up at a school as a project - and I wonder, would they do an episode where the parents come to Ponyville in a rage fit because they're son is in the possession of another creature? And even have the whole meet the inlaws with Rarity? It would be a crazy episode.

You know, I was making a post where I talked about Spike eventually outgrowing Ponyville and decides to move to a nearby mountain, and how heart felt it would be, but I got an error message so the post didn't work, spooky. I mean the episode would have Spike growing on his own (no stealing) and accidently knocking over houses and such.

It would be one of those tearjerker moments when Spike is leaving and you see him saying goodbye to his friends and some other "nobel" dragons waiting for him in the background, then a scene where Twilight looks at Spike's bed and see how empty her home is, but the good news is that he would still be close enough for them to see him.

The point of the episode would be along the lines of a child growing up and moving away for whatever reasons: a career overseas, college far away, they can afford their own house(solid job and savings), they want to start a family of their own etc. So in the case of Spike, many of the ponies would have a hard time letting go just as the viewers would, but I know they wouldn't go that route, it's too bittersweet.

One idea for a future episode would be to have a young female dragon show up in Ponyville (maybe she's lost - who knows) and of course we can already tell how Spike would react all chivalrous, showy and nervous, I can already hear his voice: "oh, a, girl dragon, oh, I've never seen one before, ah, I'm Spike, ah, what, what's your name? Uh, You want to share this uh, ruby? There's enough for both of us."

And of course Rarity would be so jealous. "Spike never shares his Rubies, he doesn't even offer, who does this girl think she is?" "Coming here with her shiny scales and her plump little tail; why, she has absolutely no fashion sense whatsoever; because, she doesn't need it, oh, she looks so good, how could I ever compete with that. I want to be alone!"

But we'd all be rooting fo Rarity of course, but then, some fans would propably warm up to the dragon girl, then there'd be debates online about who Spike should pick, it would be a riot.

BTW, the pictures of Rarity and pike are nice, is that sticker and shirt from your collection?

Re: My Little Pony : Friendship is Magic

@Neon: yeah I have all the stuff I posted pics of, lol.

And you know again, those are all some pretty good Ideas neon, I could see the female dragon thing actually happening in the show at some point.

But yeah if you'll allow me to nerd out further, Another thing i've noticed is that Spike & Rarity have developed in simmilar ways, that is to say there episodes have had simmilar overall morals, and what not..so without further ado, Soundmonkey44's crazy Sparity comparison listings!!! lol.

- In the episode "A Dog & Pony" show Spike receives a gem from Rarity for his hard work, then in "Secret Of My Excess" Rarity seduces Spike into giving her the fire ruby, basically they have both been involved with an exchange of gems, given under different circumstances, but still.

- Both Spike & Rarity had episodes in season one dealing with Jealousy!: In "Green Isn't Your Color" Rarity was jealous of Fluttershy's fame as a model, and in "Owl's well that ends well" Spike is jealous of Owlicious fearing that he will not only take his job, but the ponies affection for him.

- Both have had to deal with Peer Pressure: In "Sweet & Elite" Rarity had to choose between siding with the snoobs of Canterlot or sticking up for her friends, in "Dragon Quest" Spike has to choose between giving in to the peer pressure and breaking the Pheonix egg or saving it.

- Both have given into greed: In "Return Of Harmony Part 1 & 2" we see a greedy Discorded Rarity in "Secret of My Excess" Spike lets his greed get the better of him and turns him into a monster.

and for some obvious stuff
-Dragons love gems, Rarity's cutie mark is gemstones

But ahh yeah, seems theres a decent amount of parallels in their story lines at times.

also @Darkagumon: Yeah the MLP cards are neat, and hey, you can never have enough Luna. I myself just got the Gold Holo Luna in a pack today, glad I did too, that things already scalped for $50.00 online! As for season sets of the show, you'll have to settle for downloading the seasons off of itunes for now, Shout Factory has no planes for season sets yet sadly, although they have said they are a possibility for the future.

Anywho.... Hopefully we will get a start date for season 3 this weekend! *knock on wood!*

Re: My Little Pony : Friendship is Magic

There appears to be many parallels between the two, I do hope they further explore this character/story arc.

Also, just a note, on the apple cider episode, when they're singing and all chanting "cider!" it's a lot like the Simpsons monorail episode.

Re: My Little Pony : Friendship is Magic

@Neon: Yeah the MLP Cider ep & Simpsons Monorail ep were both inspired by the classic films "The Music Man" and "The Flim-Flam Man."

And in today's Pony News Update: Sad news for folks (such as myself) that pre-ordered the Fan Favorites Brony Set &/or Zecora Limited Edition MLP figures from Toys R Us &/or Toy Wiz. Apparently Hasbro didn't make enough supply to meet initial demand. E-mails have been sent out infroming those who pre-ordered of the delay, and that the items will be sent as soon as possible. But it has also been stated that if the items do not arrive by September 12th, the orders will be canceled. So yeah rather disheartening to those who have had both pre-ordered since June to think they may not get them, hopefully though this is just an issue of getting the goods to the distributor and not a lack there of. Even if they don't take your money on pre-orders, I for one would still be pretty peeved if I don't get the figures i've been waiting 2 months now for.

Also Hot Topic is having a contest where fans have the chance to win one of the Derpy Hooves Figures given away at SDCC earlier this summer, so yeah, now I have yet another reason to frequent my closest HT, lol.

And Enterplay has announced the Third MLP Promo Card will be Fluttershy, and it will be given out at the EverFree NW Bronycon (limit 1 per a guest) ..Ugg I hate Promo's there so cruel to completists like me, you can't get em by buying packs, instead you have to pay out the wazoo, or find someone who will be willing to trade *which is near impossible* Oh Interplay why not wait & give the promo's out in the upcoming MLP comic, like Wizard's is doing for Magic.

And finally Micheelle Creber, the voice of Apple Bloom is having a concert at the EverFree NorthWest Bronycon this weekend!

So if your able to, go show your support for the gal, after all MLP is about friendship and helping, and even the VA's need help at times. Again I can't comment on young Ms. Creber's overall ability as a songstress, but if its something she dreams of doing, I wish her the best of luck. Heck rather have my kids listen to her then those annoying Disney/Nick Teeny Boppers. tongue

Haha, Flim Flam Man, just like Flim and Flam, goes to show how old ideas can be used over and over again.

On the note of that order, that really sucks, but some of that treasure would go well for an enthusiast such as yourself - I do hope you're able to get that Derpy toy, you do some cartwheels and backflips after that.

Can't say I'm into the merch myself, even when it comes to anime stuff - I didn't buy a thing at the con I was at, I have the cash, but I have gotten quite picky.

@neon: haha, yeah i'll defiantly be entering the contest when it starts to try to win a Derpy, lol And yes classics can inspire all sorts of other works.

Anywho on topic. Seems the MLP Binder Enterplay is releasing for the trading cards comes with a set of six Discord Puzzle cards, not the EOH Puzzle as previously believed, my guess is discorded versions of the mane six. Also bought a few more packs today got another one of the EOH Puzzle cards, now i'm only missing 15 cards from the set, well 18 if you count the 3 Promo-cards, but since those are only given out at Bronycons or scalped on ebay...yeah....buck that.

Also, tomorrow is Saturday, heres hoping Hasbro gives us more season 3 info!!! *crosses fingers, knocks on wood!*
