Re: Happy 2013! The Thread Of New Years Resolutions & Wishes!

Happy New Year to everyone here! I normally don't make resolutions because I rarely keep them but I got at least two that I plan to commit to.

1. I'm gonna be more active and more adventurous. I never had much of a chance to do anything while finding my own place to live in for the past year. I've invested so much time for my own home I never really got to enjoy last Summer and some of Spring. Now that I don't have to worry about too much and have some money on the side I just wanna go out and have a change of scenery. No restrictions, I'm going all out!

2. Video Game wise I'm going back to my old roots. Being drawn into FPS games has really limited my skills as a gamer and I feel that I'm losing touch of what I enjoy in video games because I would normally play games that everyone else has, including some of my friends in the online gaming community. I'm distancing myself from the COD, Halo, Borderlands crowd. I want to be able to be at top level in fighting games, I want to be drawn into the story of a JRPG, I want to challenge my mind on a puzzle game, and anything else along the line. I'm going back to what influenced me as a gamer and it's not shooting games and if any of my friends can't keep up with me, then tough, because I'm tired of playing the same old **** this year.

I don't have much, but I can continue to:

cut back on soda (not giving it up, f&ck that)
continue to save and invest money
continue being open minded in terms of various media, especially anime
continue working overtime at work when offered
continue to practice bass but try to get more of it
continue swimming but doing it more
continue working out, only more; practicing martial arts and running

but some changes I would like to make:

stop oversleeping so much on weekends and days off - I stay up later than I have to, then sleep in way too much this is a big one
do a little recording of my bass playing up to and including a youtube video - just have to figure out how to do it
get the cleaning projects done down here
gets some pictures of my collections so that I can post them

I'm not normally the type to make resolutions, but this year, I have made one, and only one really, that I plan to keep.

By the end of this year, I WILL be a published author! My first book may not be out, but it will be licensed to publish, and then I'll be hard at work at another book, either a second book to the one I'm currently working on, or another one entirely. I won't guess at the specifics, but one way or another, I will be an author by year's end!

I'll just keep watching more anime, read more manga, and play more video games. But...

I would like to own the Nintendo 3DS so I can get started on my 3DS game collection!
And I also want to find the Hayate the Combat Butler Animax dub so if anyone knows where I can find it, please tell me!

Happy New Year!

@Neon: But if you don't quit soda cold turky, you'll never beat the addiction! Anywho i've gone 2 days now without a Dr. Pepper, only 363 to go, wish me luck! XD.

As for the topic of video games, i'm actually (almost) completely divorcing gaming this year, I'll be selling my 3DS and the remainder of my DS/3DS library later this week or sometime this weekend, not because I don't like it, no I love it and the games I have for it, I just have finally come to realize outside of Summer I don't really ever play video games, and even then not often. The only game I plan to buy this year is the upcoming Disgaea 10th Anniversary game, and maybe the HD port of Kingdom Hearts when/if it comes stateside. Other then that, i'm pretty much retired from the gaming world, outside of KH & Disgaea I don't care enough about video games anymore to keep at it. But to those who do, I commend you!

Although I do admit when/if the opportunity ever comes along I most likely will buy a PS VITA, if for no other reason to download all the old Disgaea/NISA handheld games and KH: Birth By Sleep.

But yeah for me gaming these days becomes more of a chore then a form of entertainment, which that is not a good thing.

All about moderation my dear boy, moderation. But I have taken action in the last few months to really curb my soda consumption; juices, milk and of course water,(which we all should be drinking mass quantities of anyways) I usually find though I mostly get craving whilst I'm at work - so that's the test right there; handling stress without, or at least less of it.

However, my condition is pretty strange to say the least; imagine a diabetic - they can only have a limited amount of sugar, whereas me, I'm actually the poloar opposite; I have to consume a lot of sugar throughout the day. My last blood test (through work) confirmed low blood sugar even when I was consuming large amounts soda, which means my body is burning it faster - I've always had a rapid speed metabolism (eating lots but not gaining much or any weight) this is only pushed further because my work is pretty active and I consume small snacks throughout the day(which speeds up my metabolism even more).

So with this, I always wondered why I could consume so much soda and not feel any of the effects, however, my sugar intake as of late has been in the form of fruits and fruit juices - and little bit of soda.

I usually drink soda for enjoyment, I'll slowly consume a couple during the weekend; I'm more partial to Pepsi, but I also like to find lesser known companies. There are two in particular that use cane sugar(one's called Boylan, adn I can't recall the other), and their soda is botanically brewed, it's very rich and tastes very good - but it has to be "tasted," not gulped like Coke or Pepsi, or other "normal" sodas.

On the topic of gaming, well, I sort of hope I get a little more track time with the games I have, I still only have about 1.5 hours logged from Lollipopchainsaw, and Soul Calibur (I've had both since last summer), has about 20 minutes and my DOA 5 (had it since last fall) has about 3 hours, maybe during my time off I'll play them after I enjoy my bass and anime.

@Neon: Thats crazy, I suffer from Low Blood Sugar too! Have since I was a kid. If I didn't know any better i'd say you and me were brothers separated at birth! But yeah same here I usually drink a soda between classes to relive stress or just when i'm sitting back watching one of my favorite shows on the weekend, but I am indeed determined to stop or at the very least cut back on my soda intake this year.

During stressful, or even boring periods - that's the true test to see if cravings can be beaten, it applies to everything like soda consumption, smoking or drinking etc. It's something I noticed with people I know and what factors or environments trigger their vices.

And yeah, I find sometimes when I sit to watch an anime or a movie, there's always this feeling of; "this is reat, but it would be better with a Pepsi, or a Cherry Tree Cola," but then the voice of reason kicks in; "you don't need it man, you had one already today - have some water or milk instead."

If you want to completely phase it out, that's fine, for me, I like the flavor and texture just too much to completely give it up, but I still want to cut back on it more so that I'm only drinking marginal amounts, I still feel, even with my condition, I drink too much of it and I should drink more water and juice. I don't drink alcohol, or smoke, or drink coffee and I eat pretty healthy (except for this past Christmas season), so a little soda is no big deal, but as I mentioned, if you want to completely stop drinking soda, you have my blessing to stick to your goal, it can be done. So go for it.

It's like my sister, she started smoking again, and she quit for nearly a year, but then started up again, and she smokes too much, me and one of my brothers are very disappointed with this considering all the factors up to and including that she's a nurse.
