Disney also bought Industrial Light & Magic, Skywalker Sound, and some other companies.

Since those are/were divisions within LucasFilm, Ltd., of course Disney got them.

Come on now guys, Disney makes some good things... The first Pirates of the Caribbean, Tron Legacy, Kim Possible. Let's at least be optimistic. I mean it's not like they can make the Star Wars movies any worse than Lucas already did, right?

Re: Disney Acquires LucasFilm

So what I've heard is Disney plans to make another Star Wars Trilogy beginning in 2015, followed by two more sequel movies of course; but it doesn't stop there, the word on the street is that they want to continue to make one Star Wars movie every 2 - 3 years.

This is something that can really cause issues - I feel, in my humble opinion, that this will make people and fans alike sick of the whole thing, I don't mind if they want to make a new trilogy or TV series every 10 years or so, but this seems, in way, what's a good way to put it? Diluting the series.

Now, some of the comments I've read in other places have been applauding Disney buying Lucasfilm and having Gearge Lucas being involved as a "creative consultant."

Now, everyone can talk smack about him all they want, and I'm going off topic, but I do need to bring this up; the prequel trilogy was good - it was different, but good. Many of the changes made to the original trilogy I was fine with except for two: Greedo shooting first and Darth Vader's added dialogue at the end of Return of the Jedi - Lucas slipped on a banana peel when he pulled that one.

While they're at it though, it would be nice if they took the liberty of making another animated TV series with clone wars style animation, or better yet, an all out anime that tells the story between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope - there's SOOO much good, interesting material there to work with , just so much.

Now, back to Disney, I have to admit though, when I heard they bought Marvel Entertainment I thought it was the end of comic beek movies as we know it, but, it hasn't changed - they all still suck! I'm just kidding, there are lots of good comic book, DC, Marvel movies. And Disney have done well with the Pirates of the Carribean series, aside from that last one that was somewhat boring and lacking of the charm of its three predecessors.

It seems as though, Disney are not seeing as much success with their animated series - save for the Pixar material, so they're going the live action route; and buying up everything in site.

Just as long as everything doesn't end up bland and boring or "kid friendly" or "all inclusive" we'll be fine, which reminds me - Funimation, don't you DARE sell to Disney - never, never, never, ever. Never.

And if I see Mickey Mouse with a Light Sabre, no, he doesn't deserve one, and I've never liked him - he's a bully, I wish I could do art better, I'd do a picture with Guts from Berserk decapitating him, even the forgiving Tomoe from Queen's Blade would make an exception and put an end to his douchebaggery, or even one of the Eva units accidentally step on him:

Shinji: "oh god, I think I just stepped on Mickey Mouse and killed him!"
Gendo: "Way to go son, I'm so proud of you - you vanquished the angel that was going to bring impending doom upon us - you earned yourself a break."

Oh, and I thought this was sort of funny:

Well considering that Disney didn't screw up Marvel like I dreaded they would, I have a little more faith in Disney and I'm actually intrigued by their purchase of Lucasfilm Works.

@Neon: Micky isn't the enemy, all those teeny bopping stars and starlets at Disney Channel that have made Disney ignore the fact animation helped make them as big as they are today are the true enemy, Also he doesn't need a lightsaber, he has a Keyblade! XD

But there has been a line of Disney/Star Wars crossover toys already, Infact I have a little figure of Stitch dressed up like Yoda, lightsaber & all!

Although I guess to be fair Disney does still throw animation fans a bone from time to time that they make themselves, like the upcoming film Wreck-It Ralph, and then on their networks they have "Gravity Falls" & the upcoming Craig McCraken series "Wonder Over Yonder."

But yeah, I for one don't view Disney as evil solely because of their increasing monopolization of the entertainment industry in the U.S. But also because they IMO, they just don't deserve it they don't deserve to be big anymore, they increasingly ignore the legacy that got them where they are and fans have to constantly push them to get the classic Disney films out on Blu-Ray. Given most of the time they listen, but its obviously more out of an urge to get us to be quite other then to genuinely please their older fans. *Also hey Disney, still waiting on the Aladdin Blu-Ray you promised us back in 08*

Hack at this point I hope Ghibli dubs stay at GKIDS (like Poppy Hill is) from now on, Disney don't deserve such wonderful films! But i'm ranting so...

Sufficed to say I truly do believe that if he were alive today Walt Disney would be fairly ashamed of what the house he made has become.

But yeah My guess is Lucasfilms will pretty much continue to operate as is, just as other Disney owned companies/networks have (ABC, ESPN, Marvel, Pixar, etc) Only with probably more Star Wars related stuff at Disney Theme parks, and again rights to Star Wars related merchandise potentially reverting back to Disney over time *Edited reruns of Clone Wars on Disney XD come 2015 and Marvel doing the Star Wars comics again like they did back in the 80's*

But yeah getting back on topic, the only real negatives here are companies like Fox, WB, Darkhorse, etc that could eventually lose their Star Wars distribution rights if Disney doesn't want to play nice and let them continue to have a piece of the SW pie. I think the only company really safe indeffinantly is Hasbro as they have a good lock on the Star-Wars toy rights and still continue to make toys for Marvel properties. Although who knows Disney could be jerks and yank both licenses away to give to their buddies at Mattel, but the odds of that happening are slime to none as it would cause too much backlash towards them atm.

Heard about this yesterday. Not sure I like te idea of Disney doing the Star wars movies. I'm not an overly big fan of the series but I did enjoy them. Yeah Disney has made some goo dovies but I'm just not sure about them continuing the Star wars Sagas.

I don't like Mickey, he left a bad impression on me when I was a kid, guess he reminds me of one of my older brothers.

@Neon: Ahh I see interesting, did you have an older brother that wore Mickey Mouse shirts or something to that affect? But yeah i'd try giving old Micky another chance, maybe watch some of the original Disney shorts, especially the ones where he doesn't talk a whole lot XD * I mean yeah I like Mick well enough, but his voice gets annoying after awhile XD*

And yep they sold em at Disney World about I wanna say, 4 or so years back.

*Got this little guy sitting on top of my book shelf*

Well, I have to say that the bar for a Disney backed Star Wars film to be good is a lot lower than it would have been without the second trilogy having been done.

Yeah, gotta agree with that.

But I dunno. Contrary to popular belief, Disney's not the devil. Yeah, they have their fair share of issues. But I really doubt the Star Wars series will move any more towards being "kid friendly" or anything like that. I mean, really, aren't the films/shows pretty tame as-is? I highly doubt there'll be major issues over the inclusion/exclusion of certain content.

That said I don't really know how to feel about it. As everyone else has already hit on, Marvel's been fine. A lot of the movies Disney's put out with them have been highly praised, right? So we'll see what happens. Definitely don't think a slew of new Star Wars movies would make many people happy, but we'll see.

That's a very vivid picture you've put in my mind. I kind of want to draw that now. Hahaha, really, nothing against Mickey Mouse but those words together like that, very funny.

Re: Disney Acquires LucasFilm

I'm hoping the new Star Wars trilogy from Disney turns out good. Episode 1 was one of the worst films of all time. It would be even worse than an Uwe Boll film had it not been for the special effects. It'd be really difficult to make a Star Wars film worse than Episode 1. The only way that will happen is if they hire Uwe Boll to direct it.
