Just curious but how are the brackets determined? Is it up to the tournament "director" to decide who enters the tournament or will there be a way for multiple people to suggest characters, VAs, villians, or what ever the case may be.
There are a few instances where we allow people to nominate the participants for a tournament. But for these bigger events, we're usually our own selection committee.
Since my sig is out, it's really no secret anymore so I'll just spill the beans and give a brief rundown of how my own tournament will work.
You see, as far as an actual bracket goes, these tournaments almost never have one. Part of the reason is that people like unpredictability; they prefer not knowing who will face who the next round. This year however, I decided to give it a try: a 64-character bracket. It'll happen after two preliminary rounds that will cut the field from 976 to 48. The sixteen characters in my sig were the final participants of last year's event, so they're automatically in the bracket.
I'll go into much more detail - including the master list of all 976 characters of course - in October when I post the tournament's discussion thread. You can expect it sometime in the middle of the month.
Thread updated! Congrats again to the lovely Jamie Marchi, as her name has now been added to the list of champions.
We're gonna take a short break, but in about two weeks I'll start the Best Anime Character Tournament Discussion Thread, with the actual tournament starting on October 26th. Get ready, because I'm bringing back user polls for this one!
Added our most recent Best Anime Character champion Revy, and the 2012 Class into the FUNimation Forum Hall of Fame. Also updated the current status of other events.
I'm still waiting to see if LuckySeven is going ahead with his Villain's Tournament. If he's not - and depending on how long the Anime Duo event lasts - I may reconsider.

Sounds great thanks for the explanations guys! It looks like this next tourney will likely add a whole bunch to my "need to watch" list lol
"Big Brother Is Watching YOU!" Nothing like an Orwell quote to brighten your day ;P

Hey 7jaws7, so what day are you posting the Best Anime Character Tournament Discussion Thread?
Friday, October 19th. I just wanted to get a small break in before kicking things off, but we'll soon be in full swing again.
Added our most recent Best Anime Character champion Revy, and the 2012 Class into the FUNimation Forum Hall of Fame. Also updated the current status of other events.
Might I add a suggestion for the character winners, it may be a good idea to add the show where the character is from.
There are many Eves from many anime series and Mustang from FMA is different from Brotherhood.
Alrighty, not a bad idea at all.
I don't like the fact that there won't be an Amazons of Anime tournament this year. I loved that competition.
The Bird of Hermes Is My Name
Eating My Wings To Make Me Tame
