Re: top ten favorite manga

you know in retrospect, lists like this are really just spam unless we list reasons why we like what we put on our lists. (even just a sentence would do.)

My Favorite Mangas (Currently) are..

#10: Rosario+Vampire: A great SJ Advanced series, one of the few modern Harem/ecchi series that is actually readable, lol. Well balanced & decently developed characters, elements & world. Decent pacing, and an overall fun read. Sort of a modern/or Supernatural Fantasy version of Tenchi Muyo in a way (only not as confusing or with as many continuities, lol.)

#9: Higurashi no Naku koro Ni: A fun modern suspense/mystery series with interesting characters & story-arcs.

#8 the Megaman "MIX" series: Hitoshi Ariga's Megaman Mangas are probably the best adaption of the Blue-Bomber out there.

#7 Ruroni Kenshin: Nobuhrio Watsuki's Samurai Manga is probably one of my favorite historical fiction comics of all time!

#6 Claymore: Norihio Yagi's Medival Shonen/Senien action series proves that Japanese comic writers (aside from Miyazaki) can write strong female characters. Given i have some quams with the level of violence at times, but overall a well written artsy tale of a Swordswoman fighting both inner & outer Demons.

#5 Dr. Slump: Akira Toriyama's 1st manga serial, fun, zany, and just an overall enjoyable read.

#4 DragonBall/DBZ: Akira Toriyama's most well known works, a fun shonen action series that arguably deserves the rediculious amount of hype it gets.

#3 Black Lagoon: Probably one of the best Senien series on the market. heck the lead is basically a female Rambo! lol.

#2 Case Closed (AKA Detective Conan): Gosho Aoyama's popular Shonen Sunday Mystery series has been a staple in the industry for 20 years now. Funs story, characters, and an overall enjoyable Manga

#1 Naussica Of The Vally of the Wind: Acclaimed Ghibli headman Hayao Miyazaki's first and only manga serial. Naussica is well written, well, drawn, and a well thought out masterpiece by one of the worlds best story Tellers. (Also poo to those who say its boring, lol.)

and those are my favorite manga, still I shall give an honerable mention to Vampire Bund, Soul Eater, Udon's capcom books. and the rest of the magna I read, lol.

@SoundMonkey: haha I hadn't even seen your avatar or your post when I posted that but yea Naussica is by far my favorite Ghibli film and as stated above probably favorite manga when I'm pressed to it.

The manga those who have never seen is very well done and actually a precursor to the movie as they refused to fund the production of the film without it. All the art is done fantastically by Miyazaki himself and the story is expanded upon greatly, honestly the first volume and half (there's 7 all in all) cover the entire movie.

Re: top ten favorite manga

Not in any order (also, I might note, while in anime I'll overlook poor animation or an art style I dislike as long as I enjoy the story, in manga I found the opposite to be true. I'm much less critical of plot as long as I like the art. So, if some of my reasons for liking a manga seem superficial... they are tongue ):

Hikaru no Go:

Though I don’t know if Go could be considered a sport, this manga is something of a shonen sports story. The characters compete, improve, grow, etc. etc. However, while most sports manga are about games I’m uninterested in, such is not the case with Hikaru no Go. In addition, what some might consider a methodical and stoic game is, in this manga, depicted as exciting and dramatic.

Atelier Marie and Elie:

The exploits of two alchemists plying their craft. I’ve not played all of Gust’s Atelier games, but those I have played I’ve very much enjoyed, and this is what first interested me in this manga. Anyway, I might describe it as silly fantasy, of which I’m quite fond.

Ichiroh!:

A humorous examination of a group of girls who failed their college entrance exams and are studying to ensure such does not happen again. I’m not certain how much, or it any, of it is due to Yen Press’s translation, but I’ve found Ichiroh to have the most effective usage of the 4-koma format out of all the manga I’ve read.

G.A. Geijutsuka Art Design Class:

I absolutely adore the character design. The humor is often very cute and should prompt smiles, but most likely won’t leave anyone rolling in laughter.

Shoulder-a-Coffin Kuro:

See first sentence of above.

K-On:

Mio.

Welcome to Wakaba-soh:

More of a triangle than a harem manga. Cute girls, funny exploits, and a sweet (though predictable) ending. It’s enough to earn my approval.

Ichigeki Sacchu Hoihoi-san:

I use Hoy Hoy traps, but I’d prefer a Hoihoi-san.

S.S. Astro:

It’s about teachers... its funny... I like it.

Kimikiss:

Pretty girls, heartwarming stories. It’s all good.

Bleh, reasoning for preferences is so difficult to enunciate hmm
