Re: The Sailor Moon & Codename Sailor V Manga Discussion Thread

Nice to see some pictures of the new release. By the way, in case anyone doesn't know--yes, I like Sailor Moon. wink

My problem with the tower edit thing isn't that they translated kanji--it's that it's done kind of sloppily. I mean the words are over the plate thingys. But whatever--if that's the biggest problem this new translation will have, it's nothing to worry about.

Hey, i'm sure more problems will be mentioned when everyone in the states get it. The shots we see here so far are from people who imported the American volumes through Amazon.

Here's another event for the manga's return/debut!

Kodansha Comics & Forbidden Planet NYC Present: The Sailor Moon Sailor-Bration

Saturday, September 17, from 10am-2pm. Free Admission!

Quote:
Join us for a special event to celebrate the new printing of the Sailor Moon manga and the first time ever printing of Code Name Sailor V via Kodansha comics with a trivia contest, presentation of the series’s history and impact, and a cosplay contest with prizing provided by Forbidden Planet, Kodansha USA and Funimation!

Hmmm. Makes you wonder why FUNi's providing prizes at an event, for a series they don't have, yet.

Well I listened to the ANN interview with Clarine Harp & Matt O'Hara last night and it's obvious that Funimation has put a lot of effort into their restoration of DBZ from it's original 16mm film.

Now don't you think that they will want to put this hard work to good use restoring other classic properties, eh?

A well done restoration would tempt me to revisit Sailor Moon after way too many years.

Sailor Moon has already been restored by Toei. The restored version has been the one used in all the recent re-releases. But I expect FUNimation to make sure that Sailor Moon would look pristine.

It was also used in the original DVDs released almost a decade ago and the re-releases use the exact same discs.

Still, it looks a helluva lot better than it did beforehand! I still think the remastered version looks amazing. These manga releases (based on the Japanese 2003 re-release) even contain "remastered" artwork since Naoko Takeuchi went back and redid quite a bit of it, even redrawing whole pages in some cases.

I agree. It's not that it was translated, it's that it just looks sloppy. The placement of the translation is just weird.

Anyway, those pics look great. Especially the color pages.

Source!

Someone else got their copy of both mangas and she noticed what seems to be more translation mistakes so to see for yourselves, go to page 5 of the thread linked above.
