The first official manga site that has the backing of some of Japan's largest manga publishers goes live on August 17 in North America.
Some titles that can be found are Naruto, Shin-chan, Kekkaishi and others just to name a few.
Here's the information source if you want to read more about this.
I don't know about you, but I think this venture can revolutionize the way that manga is read in America.

I hope this can combat the scanlators that are really hurting the industry. I'd much rather let the creators get the ad revenue than scanlation sites.
Edit: Is this free/ad-supported, paid subscription, or do we have to digitally buy each volume?

I'm sorry, but unless they release this 5 days before Weekly Shonen Jump comes out, I doubt this will hurt scanlator's much. Weekly Shonen Jump usually comes out Sunday, but because of early copies it always illegally comes online on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Either way, I wish them good luck. It will be nice to have a legal place to read the latest One Piece chapters.
I just hope they have a snail mail option like for their Crunchyroll site. If not it looks like I won't be supporting them anytime soon unless they will have chapter for free with ad-support.

True... Manga companies are dealing with an even tougher more spoiled crowd than the anime community (yeah, that's possible.).
However, as long as they do "simulpublish" the chapters I will read them there and no where else. Even if it costs some money. And if communities I visit still choose to read them illegally a week earlier or so I will avoid those communities.
I really want this to succeed. It's exactly what we need, and I've heard that it might also be a place for smaller publishers to get out their works to us. So not only might it give us the latest chapters from Japan (has this been confirmed anywhere though? Seriously. Just wanting to know) but it will also bring through smaller series that would have never made it here.
I'm so glad they're going for it, and I will support it.

its essentially the manga version of crunchyroll so it will prolly be free with a premium subscription option.
It would be nice to see some lesser known manga translated on there. Also, because Kodansha USA seems to not want to continue the rest of the Del Rey stuff that was left hanging (
), maybe those series will end up on there.
Well, apparently nothing was mentioned that even implied simultaneous with Japan chapter releases (at least to my knowledge and I think somebody would have mentioned it if they had) so perhaps we shouldn't be expecting that as much as we are.
However, it was confirmed that obscure titles will make it to America in this way, and that is amazing. I hope this succeeds more than anything. But I'm afraid that may take the anime/manga fanbase over here to gain some sense.

Intersting, glad to know there will be a legal alternative so all those spoiled littl brats with entitlment issues...er I mean, somewhat impatiant fans will now have a legal outlet to feed their online manga addiction.
As for simultanious releases, I guess it would depend on the series. I know some U.S. comic companies are starting "Same Day Digital" releases for some of their series, so I guess in theory manga publishers could do the same, we will mearly have to wait & see. But yeah, hopefully this will help the industry out, and get less fans to depend on scanlations.
All Will Know The Wonder Of My Dark & Jewled Sky, When All The World Is Wrapped In An Eternal Lullabye.
I think Shin-chan will be a lot different from the Funimation dub. lol.
and I can finally read Kekkaishi.
hmm... what else?
nothing really interests me except Kekkaishi.
I looked earlier today at the JManga site, and it seems that if you want to sign up for the closed beta, you can no longer do so. It just has the "Beta Sign In" button.
Anyway, with the site only 13 days away from official launch, I hope we get some information on what type of accounts can be created, like if the site will be similar to Crunchyroll in that there will be premium members and free members.
